After trying several more things to no avail, I have decided to load it up and take it to a regional Yamaha dealer that's been in business for decades and has much familiarity with the XT225 series. I simply do not have the diagnostic instruments/tools or expertise needed to determine where the issue lies.

I will tote it off to them likely tomorrow or Saturday. They currently have a 3-4 week waiting list, but I'm tired of fighting with it.
