Did a CloneZilla BU of my system today which took about 2.5 hours. Then I decided to try the system upgrade. Got about 1 hour into and it promptly crashed sighting dependency problems. Had some 147 files to deal with.

No surprises with this as I've had problems in the past with Linux updates crashing. I usually BU the system onto an extra PC and then do a fresh O/S load on my daily PC. Followed by reloading all the software. It needs to happen on a day when I have hours of free time.

I solved the problem using the command line.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get --fix-broken install
sudo apt-get upgrade

This will fix the dependency issues (if you have any). You'll need to baby sit the upgrade as there will be a prompt asking if you want to leave the defaults in place. Answer N. The Linux upgrade manager then needs to be run to handle a few remaining packages. Depending on how far behind your system is and how fast your connection is, this can take up to several hours.

Anyway my system is now current. For whatever benefits that brings.

Posted a quick note commiserating with you on the dependency issues you faced doing the upgrade, only to find you've solved the issues using the CL - so I deleted it. Good on you!

As far as what the 19.2 upgrade brings to the table, there's more than enough in the way of tweaks and improvements to make it worthwhile, at least in my book. Hope you find it the same..

In what way, if I may ask? Let's see if we can 'un-strange' it for you!..

brer15 - Years ago the command line interface was it for interacting with a computer. Xerox changed all that with their early GUI concept. Linux retains a command line "terminal" window which can access all of its features. Including those not accessible via the GUI. It's the backdoor for getting out of trouble sometimes. It's a complex and clumsy interface for anyone not versed in it. That said, it's the most flexible and powerful of all the HMIs.

Windows maintained a DOS prompt through many versions. Not sure if it survived on new Windows releases like 10. I have a Windows 10 PC and I don't see the icon anymore.

What PC(s) do you use?

Don't worry about it. Lots of conversations 'show up' in areas where you wouldn't typically expect them. People aren't robots. They don't always 'toe the line' or 'follow the road map'. Get used to it, there's nothing wrong with that.

Trust me, it's no 'sin' to color out of the lines, to blaze a 'new trail' now and then, intentionally or otherwise. Don't let such things deter you. They're not all that 'strange' in the overall scheme of things!!..

Besides, an occasional 'curve ball' keeps people 'on their toes', and that's a good thing!..

Enjoy!

#brer15 & George - That's my mistake since I started the thread in the wrong forum. Moved it just now. Too many buttons to push sometimes. Thanks guys for the heads up.

I too have an HP EliteBook 8530p with Windows 10 on it. I need that because an HMI product I'm working with only supports Windows for their development system. So far it's been running fine. The PC was given to me by a friend all loaded and ready to go. I installed the HMI development system without any hassles. So far so good.
