Hey y'all, I'm James from Southwest VA! My first bike was an XT350 and second bike an XT225. Now, I'm trying to mix the two up a little to try and make my own personal and unique XT. I meant to post here a while ago but better late than never. I've been using this site for a couple years now and was too lazy to make an account until recently. This place is a God send for someone like me, who didn't know much about motorcycles at all before. Just wanted to say thanks for all the awesome info and the community that existed and exists here! Y'all are all awesome.
I'll come back and post some pics of my bikes and how far I've come along on my project. There's a snowstorm coming in tonight, so I'll have plenty of time to work on it.....in my kitchen. lol

I ride in the Roanoke Valley and everywhere close by. Spend lots of time in Craig county riding!

James, welcome to the group! I understand you've done a lot of reading and learning here the past couple of years, so having you now signed up and posting about your own bikes and projects is a treat we'll all enjoy! .

Not sure how you'll go about mating up an XT350 and your XT225 - but it'll be interesting to see what you come up! ..This site is filled, from it's earliest days on, with members detailing fascinating ideas and projects they've put together with varying degrees of success. Each of these projects and their accompanying posts has added to the mystique and overall understanding of what these Yamaha XT's are capable of, both in stock and highly modified form. So posting about your XT project as time goes by will find you in good company!..

..I'd rather have questions I can't answer, than answers I can't question.. Dr. Phil

Right now, I've got the front forks from the 350 on the 225 frame but am having no luck getting the swingarm for the 350 to fit. Ive also got a new tank and seat to put on to make it look a little more 70's style. Once I get some pictures and everything in place I'll make a thread about what all I've done. Really need to figure out the rear suspension cause my shock is shot. lol

Welcome. Looking forward to the pictures. Anything that looks '70s is fine by me. My favorite 2 dual purpose bikes were 1979s. A Yamaha DT250 and a Honda XL250S. The one thing I don't like about the look of the XT225 is the pyramid shaped gas tank and the way the seat goes up on the gas tank. Notice how the '79 has a flat top tank and a real seat. It also didn't have that plastic fairing around the headlight and instruments like modern bikes have

The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.
