Bill Stewart's replacement DMO Specialties foot pegs are legendary amongst XT riders. Off or on road, these pegs make for vastly improved more comfortable foot support, providing an unmatched sense of connection with your bike. I've purchased and installed a set of Bill's pegs for each bike I've had as one of the first things I've done on acquiring an XT225. They not only improve my riding experience with the bike, they add the sort of value that brings top dollar when the time comes that the bike goes to a new home. I spent three plus years with my 'ear to the ground', on the lookout for a 6th XT225, finally finding the one I've been looking for a few weeks ago in Prescott Valley, AZ. One of the first things I did on getting the bike home was order a set of Bill's foot pegs. They arrived in what seemed no time at all, and immediately were installed in place of the tiny OEM pegs the bike came with. As tough as it is to find good XT225s for sale these days - at least in this neck of the woods - the bike I lucked into 2 1/2 hours away will likely be with me for the duration. Without these DMO Specialties oversize foot pegs in place it really wouldn't be the comfortable highly responsive ride it now is. I have nothing but good to say when I recommend Bill's foot pegs to every XT rider who hasn't made the move just yet. You'll be amazed once you do, and you'll end up wondering what took you so long!! As Lily Tomlin used to say, .." And That's the Truth!"

You've got me thinking about Bill's pegs. I'm also wondering about handguards. Any recommendations? A lot of innovations in the 30 years I was bike less.
2018 XT250 New 06/12/18. Now at 13,900 miles.

..You've got me thinking about Bill's pegs. I'm also wondering about handguards. Any recommendations?.. Can't say much about hand guards. A couple of my XTs had them, but they were on the bikes when I bought them. As rocky and rugged as the desert and mountain country I've ridden in has been, it hasn't been heavily overgrown and hand guards haven't been absolutely necessary. Some areas of the country, maybe areas where you ride, making your way through heavy overgrowth means hand guards are essential. But having no real experience with that I haven't paid much attention to what's best and where to source these items. Others will likely jump in with suggestions, so let's see what they say. As for oversize foot pegs - if you're still using the tiny OEM pegs Yamaha put on these bikes, do yourself a favor and replace them with a set of Bill's DMO Specialties oversize pegs. I guarantee you'll love them, and you'll thank me for the nudge!..

These handguards with integrated mirrors are really cool. Not cheap, but really nice. I don’t have them but know a couple who do. Helps to add the link... https://www.highwaydirtbikes.com/index.php?app=ecom&ns=catshow&ref=HDB-100

Initially I purchased oversized pegs from Amazon (before knowing about DMO) which didn't fit. I returned them and, after joining the group, learned of the DMO pegs and bought them. Super easy install and a top quality part.

They are as close to a 'must have' addition to these bikes as you'll come across just about anywhere!..

I found this forum while searching for better pegs for my 2 XT225s. I bought 2 sets of DMO Specialties pegs after the first time I rode my XTs. I'm very happy with them. They rival the quality of the IMS pegs I have on my TWs. The difference in how you weight the pegs is night and day. For a 95 pound rider, that makes a big difference between crashing and staying up riding.
Just my 2 cents but with inflation it's only worth 1 cent

I have a set of oversized pegs on the XT I ride, but I did not buy them. I bought another XT, and it came with them. I swapped pegs with that bike. It will be my replacement bike if the one I'm riding ever wears out. Wider pegs help a lot, and I highly recommend them. I have never had handguards on any bike. I tried riding a bike with them some time ago, and they were just in the way. I ride mostly in the desert and on national forest roads. A pair of MX gloves protect my hands, and I carry a pair of spare levers.
The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary. 1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.
