I have a 06 xt that I ride on mostly trails but a little bit of pavement in the black hills of South Dakota I am the second owner and have had it for about 2 years I absolutely love it it the only thing I don’t really like is how soft the suspension is but other than that it is a great bike

Welcome to the site as a new USER. Enjoy and ride safely. You may find the soft suspension is a perk when climbing hills in rocky terrain and or negotiating over rocky terrain. It tends to keep the tires on the ground. 12-15 PSI in the rear is what I used. If traveling too fast it also tends to bottom out the suspension. I'd opt for more suspension travel but then comes increased inseam height. Bad for paddling and/or getting a foot down if a hill climb runs you off your line. Lower gearing also helps trail riding. Easiest is 14:45 so you can keep the same chain and go back to 15:45 if you don't like it. Post on!

Welcome. Here's everything you need to fix the suspension. https://procycle.us/model/yamaha/xt225/suspension I put over $1000 into suspension on mine (I weigh 240) then a few years later became disabled and can barely get on and off the bike.

The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.

The stock suspension is very lightly sprung and has way too much high speed compression damping, making it hard to hang on to in the rocks but bottoms easily on big hits. The Cogent setup is expensive for sure but completely transforms the bike. It cost me about the same as I paid for the whole XT, and I am so glad I bought it since it feels like a real dirt bike now. No way I'd go back to stock. Make sure you buy the right spring sets for your weight.

Thanks for the direct link to Procycle site - will come in handy for me as upgrading my forks is next on the list.
