..The bad reviews i was refering to, was people just hating on this bike, saying its ancient technology, slow, heavy, underpowered.. Like I said, people pushing an anti XT agenda. Not at all uncommon, regardless of the subject. Whether it's a motorcycle model, hand gun or rifle, laptop or desktop computer, four wheel vehicle, religious or philosophical preference, ..you name it. Everyone has an opinion, and their opinions drive agendas designed to sway others to their way of thinking. The smart approach is to make up your own mind just like you're doing with your '09 XT250. The opinions of others can't effectively compete with personal experience, so we got that goin' for us!!
The voyage of discovery that truly matters is not in seeking new lands but in seeing with new eyes.

Thanks for that link I will be giving it a go in the spring.
Does uncorking the exhaust change the exhaust note a lot?

Hi Steve,
the process for the mixture screw is correct but, don't forget yours is a Japan bike and the exhaust is different from the US bikes.

Steve On the XT225, MY OPINION is no, it doesn't (tone-wise). It will be slightly louder though, depending upon the size of the hole you create. I find that at idle, it's almost the same as stock. Full throttle is another thing (but in my opinion again, is quite acceptable) My bikes are just under 1" holes... By the way, consider using a STEP-DRILL rather than a hole-saw. Cheaper and faster. people just hating on this bike, saying its ancient technology, slow, heavy, underpowered, i did a lot of research, and for some reason lots of nay sayers out there for sure My 2 cents worth on the above. The best explanation of what an XT250 is I reckon came from a magazine review I read recently. That stressed it wasn't a dirt bike, but rather a road bike with dirt capability. This I reckon is a spot on description as the XT250 is the Tricker (a road bike) with dirt wheels and one notch lower gearing. So if someoen's looking for the latest dirt racer, cause they'll regard it as old tech, heavy, slow, and underpowered. But if someone is looking for, let's settle for "trail bike" then being low tech is actually a plus, weight needs to a compromise between road/offroad, speed isn't really an issue and anyhow the XT250 performs fine pulling quite respectively in 3,4,5 gears between 20 to 50mph. Saying the XT250 is not a good dirt racer is about as relevent as saying a Harley isn't a good bike because it doen't perform like a superbike. John

John Yep, i feel the same exact way, i actually bought this bike cause people have said it was very comfortable on the road, and it is, i am really happy with my purchase, now the only thing i need is more $ so i can do some upgrades, lol

Does anybody know if that small Fender right above the front wheel have a purpose? not the main black one, but the small one that only goes from the middle of the front wheel to the back of it.

Same deal as the fender on a road bike, to reduce the amount of water being flung off the front wheel back at the engine and rider's lower body. More effective for that purpose than a high set MX style designed for mud with lots of clearance. John
