A weekend in a field
So it must be a HUBB meeting then, the autumn meet in Cheddar ( where the cheese comes from) in Somerset, and a sort of slimmed down version of Ripley. I am still banned from riding or camping and so had to make do with pottering about on a walking stick, and sleeping at a B&B. But it was still good, and I actually managed to hear some talks this time ( unlike Ripley)
The event also attracted a motley collection of bikes and riders.
This splendid Ural outfit, which as the plate says, was the first outfit to cross Mongolia. I think it might have belonged to Andy who rode out to see the huge Chinngis Khan statue but I'm not sure as I couldn't find him to ask.

And this with a neat luggage arrangement
Some good examples of multiuse stuff - check out what the panniers really are (plastic water carriers)
This was cool too
And Iain and Debz' portable bar

The camping field filled up quite quickly, especially as it was not the greatest of weather

And Doc had obviously started a tipi trend at Ripley

The place was a working farm and some of the locals seemed quite interested in the weekend's events

And this biker dog spent the whole time riding around on the quad

There were some good talks - this one by by Francis Maxey - former rope walker in the circus and BMW rider who took us through some very effective riding stretches, including proper posture

Just managed to catch Pumpy unawares and in the act

She later did an excellent talk on her trip to South America on her DRZ 400
And this great little C90 ridden by Dick ( aged 74) who was every bit as cheeky as his sticker!

But the weekend prize of all prizes has to go to this bloke - Ed March and his C90 combo.

He had nicked his mate's C90 which had blown up, removed the front wheel and then welded what remained to his own C90 as a 'one of a kind' sidecar. And what's more, he'd ridden it to Cheddar from Devon complete with a shopping basket full of beer stuck on the front, without getting arrested or dying. This boy is beyond help and very amusing in that English eccentric sort of way ! His talk on Saturday - the Elephant Rally on a C90 and camping in the Alpine snow without a tent or very much else was an experience. He was last seen preparing to ride home to Devon on the same contraption!
Not sure whether the pillion finally joined him though!
Happy Riding!

Hi Belle,

nice little report there and looks like fun was had by all.

I really do like the Ural outfits, they appeal in an odd manner to me.

Team Cabra, my Brazilian XT225, Team Ukulele, my Japan import XT225, a CCM GP450SR and loads of 2 stroke Kawasaki AR's!

Hi Belle,

Thanks for posting the report so I could see what I missed. Sorry I still didn't get to meet you, but I ended up with a very ill relative on the Thursday before and could not go. I was really looking forward to it as well, but family must come first.

I think the weather ended up being better than was first forecast.Looks like it was a good turnout anyway.

Hopefully will get to meet you soon.

Best wishes. Jackie
