Decided to upgrade the Front suspension on El Chupacabre.
went with Cogent Dynamics custom springs at .o46 rate and Racetech's Gold Emulator Valves.
I took pictures in case anyone else wants to do this to their XT.
you will need a drill press, some fork oil, a vise helps a lot, something to drive in your
fork seals, a set of picks will help, and a set of small files to deburr your damping rod after
you drill , you will also need a 1/4" drill bit.. and a stand for your bike.. duh.

this is a diagram of what you will be breaking down. its in the manual that you should have

take the fork cap off and press the silver cap down with a socket.
use something to get the clip out. the silver cap with come out easily.

dump the oil

remove this bolt. more oil will come out

remove the dust seal

remove this clip

jerk the fork tube out

remove the seal

remove the seal guide

remove the bushing

drink a bear that is as cold as the Rockies

examine the gutts

behold the Racetech diagram. it shows how to install the Emulators and where to
Drill the holes in your damping rods. Dont worry. If you Fck up you will just have to buy
another damping rod.. or 2 .

mark off your damping rods

Drill holes in your damping rods

Now. drink a beer, use your files and deburr all the holes you just drilled in the damping rods.
make sure you get the insides of the holes. clean all the metal out. start putting everything
back together.

Install your new fork seals and dust covers. use your seal driver to get the seal to seat.

pour in the specified amount of oil

Use this tool along with a 12volt battery to give the oil a positive charge.

... just kidding that came from a VCR and has nothing to do with motorcycles.

Again... Do you realize that THIS THREAD contains info that is still useful today? Maybe the OP will see my post and fix the pic links. It's happened before.

Swamp is still on ADV rider and recently got his XT225 running again.I saw the write up with pictures and most of them were for the front end.The rear shock was just a picture of the shock on top of a cooler and then when it was installed. If you are looking for tips here they are.Take off the rear wheel with the bike off the ground.Remove the shock by removing the two bolts top and bottom and then reverse the process. If you have a repair manual it will go into more detail but it it not complicated.
