I have a tach, clock, hour meter, GPS and other assorted doo dads on my XT. The only one I seem to use much while trail riding is the GPS . On the street The speedo is really all I need . My opinion on the XT is its a wonderful ,dependable bike that will go just about any where, albeit a little spartan in stock form. But If I had wanted to GO FAST Or race I would have chosen a different bike altogether. I beleive theres no point spending a huge chunk of cash to get another 3-5 HP out of the XT when you can buy a WR that has double the HP in stock form. Function follows form in this case of the XT...

raceman, No pissing match intended here, just a little discussion. I did the 3 turns out and Z1 mod on my XT225. Also I have Avon Distanzias tires, rear rack, hard bags, engine guard, highway pegs,Walmart atv pad,Spitfire windshield, and 16 tooth front sprocket so my XT is not stock. IMHO these are mods to improve my intended use of the bike. Do you intend to race your XT225 on the track?

No matter what you do to a XT225, it's still a XT225. It's an entry level bike and a pretty good one. All it really needs is a speedo/odo and if you're in the boonies, maybe a GPS. All the "gee-whiz" stuff isn't going to make it better. If you want better, more high tech, you're gonna' have to move on up.

Hey raceman, I've been wondering the same thing about the Vapor - Talking with my Tucker-Rocky rep, he said that for the XT I should run with the Universal. I personally don't NEED the unit, but for my own curiosity would like to know the "extras" this little unit provides, so am gonna try this out this winter. Let me know on your progress, if you would.
NOTE: Its not about NEED. I, personally, like to "tinker" and have a love for "gagets". Modding is the result. I've seen what I consider to be "pointless" mods done to M*A*N*Y bikes. The point here, is who am I to say "you don't need that"? Its YOUR bike. Personally I'm a little shocked that I've heard (paraphrased) "you don't need that" on this topic AT ALL. I say "MOD YOUR BIKE RACEMAN" - THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH FINDING THE LIMITS TO WHAT ONE CAN ACCOMPLISH WITH THESE BIKES. "BOOOO" to all the nay-sayers (shaking finger in disapointment)

It's ok ace, it just took me off-gaurd to see multiple ppl on this thread imply such things. I've come to expect alot of helpful info from everybody here. As far as I can see it, as long as it doesn't hurt the bike machanicaly, why not?
So much expieriance and wisdom from so many different walks of life here - personally raceman, I think you should build this thing up to your hearts content, then RACE that beast and leave everyone in the dust..... snap a photo though, cause I want to see the look on ppl's faces when the see they've been schooled by the mighty (though underestimated) Serow!

l`ve been building racecars and racebikes for 30 years,l can`t leave anything alone or close to stock. The idea that if one wants something better or faster then just simply BUY a bike that fits that bill, well, like l said; l can`t leave anything stock so for me that would never work.l`m a tuner,it`s what l do. Sometimes l wish l could be satisfied with a stock _anything_ , but l can`t. The upside is that l`ve built some very trick vehicles and like my t-shirt says--" it`s not what you buy,it`s what you build" Most of the car/bike forums l belong to and know of are centered around modding the vehicles, stock is boring so really what else is there to talk about? How lovely Yamaha balanced the multicolored fuel tank grafics? hahahahahaha

Well, Okay. My main issue with most mods is they reduce the reliability of the product. I say this from experience as a service manager of two different auto dealers and many years of personal experience. However, if mods are your thing, then go for it.

Well Ace,that explains a lot. l`ve worked as a line tech for several dealers over the years and your viewpoint is nearly universal in that brand loyal corporate atmosphere.Butchered up mods on warrantied vehicles create endless problems and no end of amusement among factory techs, many of whom in my experience know little to nothing about aftermarket products or performance enhancing speedware.Strangely, not all professional mechanics are what l would consider "gearheads" and in fact real gearheads are few and far between in dealerships in my experience. Factory techs know factory specs, anything else is generally not welcome through the bay doors and when you`re working on book time who can blame them?
