I don't know if you all know about this product so I figured I mention it. I drilled out the plug covering the pilot idle mixture adjusting screw, but found that it was a pain in the ass getting a screw driver in there to adjust it. I have a extended pilot screw on my DR650SE Suzuki which uses a Mikuni carb. I got the extended pilot screw from Kientech Engineering, they have a lot of trick stuff for the DR650, 350, 400, etc. Suzukis. I called them & asked if the extended pilot screw would also fit the XT225's BST34 Mikuni carb. They weren't sure, but said they would send me one & if it wouldn't work I could send it back. I also had them send along the tension spring , spacer washer & small o-ring that goes on the pilot screw (cheap & good to have spares). Well the screw fit perfectly. The needle profile is a little different than the stock pilot screw, but it works. It is still a bit of a pain in the ass to get your fingures on it when the engine is hot, but with mechanics protective gloves on it's not bad. I initially set the screw at 3 turns out, but after the bike warmed up I found the best setting was 2 turns out (I live in Las Cruces, New Mexico at about 4000 ft. elevation. I ended up taking the carb all the way off & completely apart to check it out. Every thing was clean & good except I found the float was set way too high (fuel level too high) by about 3mm (1/8"). I reset it to the 15.1mm requiered setting. The bike runs great now. There was only 3000 miles on this 2007 XT225, so the improper float settig came right from the factory. All you people with carb problems should first check the float setting. Here's Kientech's Web Site:

which pilot screw did you finally get? There are several shown.

I had seen another one but nobody had ever used it so I didn't order it.

On the invoice from Kientech Engineering it shows I got the Extended Fuel Screw for the DR650/350/200. So it fits all those DR's & the XT225! It cost $15.

My recollection is that it's the DR350. I bought 2 of them, then I decided (on my third bike) that since they didn't need any adjustment, why not just set the stock needle to 3 turns out...which is what I did.

Same here, when I replaced my carb with a new one,I did the 3 turn mod and figured it's done. My new Kientch screw is sitting in the garage with the old POS carb.

They said that they don't have yamahas listed because they haven't checked the fitment themselves, but theyve sold quite a few of them for these bikes

Just ordered one myself. It works great and was able to help me dial in my screw setting. Just an FYI to everyone: when I talked to Keintech, they said they were hoping to retire by the end of the year and liquidating their inventory. If you think you'll want one, I'd buy one now before they're gone.

But, once the stock PJAS is set to 3 turns out, you never need to do it again. I verified this at Sea Level and 13,000' feet.

When I had my carb off my bike, I meticulously sawed off most of the "tube" that the screw is hidden inside of. Now the head of the stock idle-mixture screw hangs 1mm below the tube.

Like Alexd said, I should never need to change it. However, for the price of FREE, I like knowing that I can change it now easily if I wanted to.
