I bought my bike used and was just curious as to what the dirt bike is supposed to sound like. Does anyone have a sound bite or something of their XT225? Mine doesn't really idle like a car, but someone up and down....somewhat like a wave..if that makes since? When it idles it never dies out, but I don't think it is quite right.
I have a crack in the rubber carbeurator joint between the carbeurator and the head. Has anyone replaced this part....and do you have to remove the whole carb?
Thanks for all of the help.
I have nothing to give.

RRRRRRrrrrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrrrr....LOL...Sorry I had to do that...Which side of the carb is your plastic cracked. The joint on the motor or the joint to the airbox? Either way, you will have to remove the carb to replace. Link to sound clip of my bike.... Sound clips

Thanks for the quick reply moto. Mine sounds pretty similiar....I think fixing the intake leak will help some as well. The crack is between the motor and the carb.
I have nothing to give.

I did have another question maybe you can help. I noticed while oiling my chain that a few o-rings have broken on my chain. Can these o-rings be replaced....or do I just need a new chain? The bike is a 1997.
I have nothing to give.

They can be replaced by using master links, but I would opt for a new chain. You will definitely have to remove the carb to change the carb joint....

Any suggestions on where to get a new chain? I looked on ebay they want about $15.00 for one....the oem online stores want $130.00. I am a little confused on the discrepency.
What happens if I am riding it and the chain breaks, besides the bike not going anywhere. Does the chain fly up...or just drop?
Well I mind as well clean out the carb and do the carb mods suggested on here while I have it apart.
I have nothing to give.

I found an OEM chain for $88.21. I also found a couple of others. Our chains are (OEM - Daido 428v2, 120 link) which are D.I.D. chains. I found a D.I.D. 428 Standard 120 link chain for $24.99, and a Primary Drive 428c Professional 120 link chain for $18.94. You can take your pick from those or look around and see what kind of deals you can get. Just remember stock is a 428 - 120 link.... What happens if I am riding it and the chain breaks, besides the bike not going anywhere. Does the chain fly up...or just drop? It can fly up and do some serious damage. It just depends on how fast you are going, but it's not going to just drop....

Thanks Moto for doing the research. I will pick one of those two up for sure. $25.00 is pretty reasonable, and considering the chain is as old as the bike, its probably a pretty good bet. I read somewhere that you have to change the sprockets when you change the chain, is that correct?
I have nothing to give.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but aren't these cheap chains non-O-ring chains? There's been some discussion on this site of using non-O-ring chains and replacing them more often (they wear out much faster and are normally for competition only) but I believe that O-ring chains are the standard recommendation.
I think that equivalent chains to the DID 428V2 are the EK 428SROZ and the RK 428SO. Some quick searching indicates that you'll pay at least $70 for an O-ring chain.
