On a 2006 XT225, is there any danger of the exhaust pipe burning a passenger. I am thinking of buying an 06 XT225 and would like to take my young sons for short rides, but the location of the exhaust/muffler worries me. Looks like it could burn the leg of a passenger. The TW200 which I'm also considering has a plastic "shield" over it.
thanks in advance!! -Chris D

The standard exhaust system has a black heater shield around the exhaust pipe where the "buddy pegs" are, and a chrome shield further back. Unless the bike you are looking at has an aftermarket system, I wouldn't worry. I would make sure your kids are wearing long pants.

If your son is big enough to reach the pegs, he should not have any problem.
Thank you lord for thinking about me, I'm alive and doing fine.

My 4-year old is now only just big enough to reach the pegs and has not burned himself on the exhaust when riding pillion or mounting the bike.

I've taken my little nieces and a friends kid for rides, and no one has burned themselves....

I have son's 9 and 13 pillioned them both for long periods with no complaints of burned legs. My aftermarket muffler which I have just taken of my road bike did get a little warm but no burns to speak of with the stock muffler.
cheers
