For the exhaust that is a welded as one unit, click on the attached link and see what NOZ69 did. He had his cut off and redid it to be removeable....

Thanks for the feedback Reggie & Moto Psycho.

I did do 40 miles or so of trailriding the other sunday in real damp and boggy conditions (puddles almost as high as the bike!)
so might have picked up some crap in the carb from that - i had the airfilter out yesterday and cleaned and re-oiled it but it didn't seem blocked....

I'm gonna try sealing up the intake manifold with heat resistent
gasket sealer as i'm not sure where to get a new one here in the uk..

Not sure if i want to go hacking the endcan really,i'd like to try and find an aftermarket silencer for it but again these seem hard to find....i have found a FMF for a TTR225 which i understand are essentially the same bike - but i've read some people have big guns or cobra's on their xt's - where would i find a aftermarket one in the uk? (if anywhere...???)

Cheers,Serowlover

Just picked up a 1992 Serow!Blue * White and no mods whatsoever as far as i can tell!

Some of the people with the FMF pipes don't like them and end up selling them. They are pretty loud, but you can stuff some silencing packing in them. The Cobra is a direct bolt up, but are hard to find, as they don't make them anymore. The Big Gun is also a direct bolt up. They have a good tone to them, but they are a little spendy. When I get ready to buy my new exhaust, I think I will be going with Big Gun. I also believe that others have gone with White Bros. and Pro Circuit....

Hi,

Aftermarket parts for the Serow in the UK are scarce as they were not officially imported by Yamaha. I was keen on getting a stainless silencer for mine and bought a second hand Yamaha WR250F silencer from a 2005 model, and using a hacksaw and mig welder persuaded it to fit. Fortunately on the WR's the std silencer do not give enough power or noise, ideal for the serow. Mine has been on since May and runs perfect with no carb or airfilter mods required.
However if you cannot weld, find a local friendly welder. If you have not seen it the link to my project is here:-

WR250F Exhaust Project

I owe Scott a write up of this project and still have not done it!!, in my defence during May06 I started my next project which was/is a redesign/rebuild of a 1984 Moto Morini so have been a bit busy/distracted.
I am happy to provide advice if you decide to mod a WR pipe, mine was about 30 gbp from Ebay.

Regards

Robin

Welcome!
Robin did a great job for me on a stainless steel exhaust I bought of ebay (cheers Robin) and it runs fine on my Serow. I just had it MOT'd today with the stock exhaust on as I was concerned that the 'not for road use' might mean a failure so I would check that what ever you put on is okay for a MOT or you keep the stock item for that purpose.

I can't get over the fact that the Serow is such a cheap bike to run. MOT £27. Tax £31 Insurance addition £28 what more could you ask for?

Cheers

Titch

Glad it worked out for you ok, if you get a chance post a picture. Strange thing is your pipe (WR450) sounded quieter than mine and my pipe (WR250) was not marked 'not for road use'. Hope the welds are holding up, mine is getting on for 7 months old and still fine plus no rust! to wire brush off and repaint. My Morini project is moving slowly, fabricating the stainless bodywork over the next month of so.

Hi Robin,

really looking forward to seeing your next Morini update.

A mate of mine has a 3 1/2 Sport, which was rebuilt about 10 years ago with stainless fittings etc and looks as good today as it did then.

Reggie

Will post next update in the 'open discussions' section around early Jan 07. Should have it bodywork done by then, hopefully.

Regards

Robin
