Greetings from Bishop, California. I live in the most beautiful place in the world. Here's a pic of me on my XT riding on a solo backcountry camp trip from Bishop to Furnace Creek and back — no highways. Love the XT. Am happy to be here. My 2006 XT225

Welcome! The 395 corridor from Bridgeport to Lone Pine is one of my favorite areas in California. The scenery where the Eastern Sierra meets the desert is stunning. I’ve only driven through Bishop, but I image the riding around there is excellent.

I like the way you have your '06 XT225 set up. Never put a Clarke tank on any of my XTs. The desert riding I did was just minutes from where I lived, and once I'd left the Valley and moved to the mountains the high country trails I enjoyed exploring began right outside my door, so extra gas wasn't necessary. But for long distance exploring the larger tank you have solves a lot of problems. Enjoy the site for all it has to offer, and be safe wherever you ride!..

welcome!
my xt's setup similar to yours and a foolhardy group of us were camping in panamint valley during the last weekend of february.
this part of the state's been getting hammered with storms, the floor of the valley, usually bone dry was flooded! we left a day early to avoid getting "snowed in"...

Welcome. I live about 25 miles southeast of Phoenix, in the AZ desert. I got a Clarke tank for my bike as soon as they became available, and also carried an extra gallon of gas in two 1/2 gallon plastic jugs in a set of tank mounted panniers. I used to go out and literally ride all day long in the desert. I also have a rack on my bike, as well as a centerstand and a kickstarter. Unfortunately, due to some fairly serious orthopedic issues, I no longer ride way out into the desert by myself. I can still ride, but I have had a lot of flat tires while riding out in the desert, and am no longer able to fix a flat tube type tire by myself out in the middle of nowhere, so a flat would leave me stranded out there, and I am unable to walk out. I did ride the XT about 20 miles on pavement a couple weeks ago, I have a roadside assistance plan that includes towing if I had a flat tire. But it doesn't work off road. I'm keeping the bike for now, in the hope that things get better. My former sister in law and her family sometimes ride quads out in the desert, and if I could go with them, they could help me fix a flat, or load the bike on a trailer. Enjoy your XT.
The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary. 1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.
