Guys, On an XT225 video I saw a chain "slider" (to protect the swingarm) on the top and/or bottom of the swingarm. My 2007 XT225 doesn't have a slider on either the top or the bottom, not can I find a place to install hardware to hold a slider in place. Should I have sliders? Thanks, Don

You don't want the chain rubbing on the swingarm. That guard isn't cheap, but its a lot cheaper than a swingarm.
This shall pass, be still and know. 2006 XT225, UNI filter, ProTaper bars, MSR handguards, SS front brake line, Shinko 241's.

If you mean part #13, yes you have to have that. Without it the chain will cut right into the swingarm. I had to replace that part on mine a few months ago. I was doing some other work on it, and while working on it that part just broke up into pieces and fell off. My swingarm is from a 1994 model, and it just dried out and rotted over the years. Yes it's expensive, but that is the least of your problems. You have to completely remove the swing arm, shock, and linkage assembly to replace it. And when I got everything apart, I found a bunch of other rubber and plastic parts that needed to be replaced. I spent 2 weeks and over $300 in parts replacing pretty much all the rear suspension bushings, spacers, and grease seals. The good thing is, now the rear suspension will outlast me. Besides the engine, the rear suspension is the hardest part of the bike to work on, mostly because of that complicated linkage. The first Yamaha single shock design just had the shock connected to the frame on one end and swingarm on the other, with no linkage. I had a 1979 DT250 like that and it worked fine.
The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary. 1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.

That is the part I was replacing when I accidentally broke the plastic/rubber chain guide on the swing arm. Mine was completely missing, though the bolt was still there, and did not show any damage from being hit by the chain. I didn't even know it was there. You could probably make one out of a rubber compression plug, but since I already had to replace so many other parts, I just ordered a new OEM one of those along with them.

I didn't know about that one or I would probably have gotten it. But now that it's done, I'm glad I did it the way I did. When I removed the swingarm and linkage, I found a bunch of worn out parts that needed to be replaced.
