My dad took me out to Woodstock when I was 12 or 13 to buy a Benelli 50. Later a group of us took turns with a Rupp Roadster, Honda CT and SL 70, a Yamaha 125, and a Hodaka Combat Wombat. My Rickman 125 was a beast! Still later it was on to my Honda CMT 400 which sold my wife on me. I took a bunch of spins on my friends Kawi 1000 and marveled at the power. Sold the bike in '82 and haven't twisted a throttle until the other day when I rolled my '22 XT250 off the Black Widow carrier by myself. How it didn't fall and get smashed I'll never know. She's sitting safely in my shed. I visit just to sit on her, wait for winter to end, and be a kid again. Looking forward to this forum. Cheers - Jim

Hi Jim - Welcome to the site as a new USER. Enjoy and ride safely. Slow time of year in winter climates for riding now.

Rupp brings back memories of mini-bikes we rode as kids. Sounds like you've had a long history with bikes. You'll enjoy the new purchase. As for carriers, that bike is light enough to be transported on a rear carrier rack which some here have done. We did mostly trail riding and always transported the bikes as close to trail heads as possible. Two of them fit inside a Ford E250 van.

Two bikes strapped down in van. Needed to install cleats for the cinch down straps.

Folding aluminum ramp worked well.

Still have the van w/326k miles on it. Bikes went to 15k before being retired. 15 years of exploring in 19 states and wonderful memories. Those bikes provided unparalleled reliable access to many a remote area. We just don't bounce of the ground as well as we once did. Post on! smile

Thanks riders! Tech issue #1, battery tender junior on order. Leave in bike or bring battery in? Gets pretty cold up here.

If the bike definitely won't be ridden till spring, I'd bring the battery in. My bike is on a tender in the garage and I rode it last Sat.

Welcome Jim. I started riding off road at age 8, in 1967 on a Bultaco Lobito 100. I also got a Briggs powered mini bike when I was about 10. Got my license and a Suzuki GT380 at 16. Been riding ever since, both on and off road. I have several disabilities, mainly of the orthopedic kind. I actually have to stand on something to get on and off my XT225. I built something I can carry with me.

The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
