Doesn't matter what they cost new but what they are selling for now. My 1982 Suzuki PE is worth more than 3 times what I paid for it new in '82. If you like it buy it as it could be gone. Or wait and hope for another one owner to come along. I always try to remember, you get what you pay for. Looks like a really nice bike.

It has a lot of miles on it, that's my biggest problem with it. The price is a bit high, but that is the case with most used bikes right now, due to very few new bikes being available. I just saw a 2019 TW200 with almost no miles priced at $6K disappear from Craigslist within 3-4 days. That is well over MSRP, but probably a little less than they actually paid out the door due to stealer dealers and their bogus fees. I bought my 1994 XT225 back in 2008 with only 1800 miles on it for $1200. But that was during the great recession and sellers were desperate. Today it is a sellers market.
The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary. 1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.

I'm with Rocmoc on this. The bike is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. With inflation as it is the money the bike is being sold for today is most likely worth less than the money the bike cost new in '94. As with all things transportation related, pickup trucks, motorcycles, classic cars, you name it,.. value is in the eye of the buyer and prices continue to climb steeply on well kept machines of all sorts.
Interesting side story that illustrates the point. I read a few days ago about a vehicle auction for dealers that had a '98 (or '99..?) Toyota Tacoma 4x4 running Toyota's 'big' four cylinder truck engine with a stick shift manual transmission (trying to recall all the details without having the story in hand), an xtra cab model with all the amenities in great shape with little more than 80k miles on it up for auction. These were vehicle dealers bidding on this truck, and when all was said and done that truck sold for north of $17,000 to a dealer - who'll mark that price up considerably to sell it to a retail customer.
I have a 2002 XT225 in excellent condition that I paid $2100 for. I've been offered almost twice that to sell it. Not interested in selling at all. ..I also have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 double cab SR-5 package pickup that I bought with 62,000 miles on it nearly a decade and a half ago. Since then I've moved the mileage up to 150,000 while keeping the truck in excellent condition throughout. Without fail I'm asked at least once every couple of weeks by someone, often 'flatlanders' up here from the Valley, who talk with me in the parking lot at the local ACE hardware store, that if I'm interested in selling it - name my price and they'll buy it.
Bottom line is that well cared for near vintage transportation equipment, whatever it may be, today demands what people see as 'top dollar' for what they're selling, ..the only drawback being that once sold it's gone forever, and finding something else to invest that money in and potentially make a return on when you sell it isn't easy in today's hotly contested marketplace..
..I'd rather have questions I can't answer, than answers I can't question.. Dr. Phil

I hope 18k isn't a lot miles. Mine has 28k. If memory serves, one of Reggie's was stolen with over 100k. As for the price... meh, its in SoCal. Everything costs twice as much there.
This shall pass, be still and know. 2006 XT225, UNI filter, ProTaper bars, MSR handguards, SS front brake line, Shinko 241's.

peejman, with 28k miles, have you had to do any engine work? Nope. The valves haven't needed adjustment in quite a while...6000 miles maybe? It had 11k when I bought it and I think I've only had to adjust the valves twice since.

I have just over 22K miles on mine, and while it gets over maintained, those were hard miles. Never had any problems with the engine. I have had to tighten the steering head bearings a couple of times, and replaced them once. I've had to clean the carburetor a couple of times because I parked it with ethanol gas in the tank and forgot to turn the petcock off. I now turn the petcock off, let it run until it runs out of gas, then pull the fuel line off the petcock and fill the carburetor full of TruFuel using a funnel I made out of the top of a gear oil bottle with the tiny nozzle stuck in the fuel line, then put the line back on the petcock. I guess it just seems that $4500 seems like a lot to pay for a bike that has 10 times as many miles on it as a bike I paid about a fourth of that for. 13 years ago. Even the same model year. But as was mentioned, circumstances are different back then.
The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary. 1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.

My '95 reg is just coming up 21k miles, I paid £1200 for it 8 years ago with 11.5k miles. I have had to do a fair bit of work on it, needed new tyres, chain kit, wheel bearings and a good full service. Put new rings in it Mar '19, now only uses 100 - 150ml between oil changes at 600 - 800 miles.
They do seem to be asking a lot of money for them now.
