https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373603465737?epid=889895429&hash=item56fc807a09:g:qlsAAOSwO~5gucOw the choke is stuck, seized on my carb and was looking on ebay found this but at only £40 looks too cheap to be any good. Has anyone any experience, assume it is a copy and not original Yamaha. carb for sale

That is a new Chinese carb. It may work and it may not. Someone here used one that they said worked fine. A couple of members on the Harley Sportster forum have used Chinese copies of the Keihin CVK carb and claimed they worked ok. The oem carb on a 1992 and up Yamaha XT225 is a Mikuni, and they cost around $600 new. That's on the U.S. model. Since you have a Japanese model, I don't know what kind of carb it has. Does it have a brand name and/or any markings on it? Does it look like the one in the eBay picture? Do you have the cable disconnected from the part that is stuck in the carb body?
The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary. 1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.

Look at the ebay sellers other items for sale. Bit odd they would have m/c carbs.
Current: 1958 Ariel 650 FH, 2014 Tiger Sport1050, 1995 XT225 Serow, 2016 Tiger 800 XRx.

I have just fitted the Chinese carb £25 UKP over here , it works fine , 3 turns out out on the mixture screw, only problem is there’s not enough space to push the fuel pipe on , the carb body is in the way it hasn’t been hollowed out like the original . If you don’t fancy it it’s still good for spares, most of the externals are interchangeable along with some internals .

Not sure what you mean by "fuel pipe" do you mean the fuel line that goes from the petcock to the carb? If so, is the fitting on the carb there? do you mean it is too close to the carb body to fit the fuel line over? That could probably be modified. £25 is not much for a carb. I have seen XT carbs for 4 times that much. They may not be all the same. A couple of others here have successfully fitted Chinese carbs. I also have a Harley Sportster 1200, and many people on the Sportster forum have used Chinese copies of the Keihin CVK carb without any problems.
The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary. 1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.

Yes to all that Jerry, there is no room to push the 8mm fuel pipe on to the brass tube, the body is in the way,had to cut the fuel pipe down on the side to get it on, did not fancy messing with the body
