Ok, so I've been off the forum for a while since buying the Husqvarna FE350S. But I must tell you that almost every ride I do with my buddies includes at least one XT225 ('06 neighbor around the corner) and 1 XT250 (2020). Soon a second XT250 will be joining us as one rider's wife is moving off her KTM250 to the XT250 as seat height is very important when you are 5'-0" Anyway - we recently did a 3-day guided ride in the Mojave. Big shout-out to Steve and Jennifer Walker of Coyote Trail Adventures for putting this ride together for us. Link to the video below. It is 9+ minutes, a lot to cover in 3 days of riding. The CTA people rent KTMs and Hondas for those who did not bring their own bikes. Two of our group (5 from SoCal you'll see us on the MTN top photo) left their Honda CRF250 Rallys at home to try out the KTM350s. They are now on a wait list for 2022 Honda CRF450Ls and selling the Rallys. Nam brought his XT250 and David brought his XT225 conveniently carried out in the back of my Silverado Trailboss that makes a cameo shot early in the video. PM me anytime for additional information on CTA, Randsburg (a living ghost town worth visiting as an overnight trip so you can enjoy the bar, B&Bs or hotel, and walk the community), or how the XT225 / XT250 did just fine no matter what was put in front of them! https://youtu.be/DneJPRzsveY JP

Not far from your area. We overnighted in Palmdale. You can pretty much just drive up to Randsburg, park your vehicle, unload the bike and head in any direction. Just pay attention as the roads criss-cross so darn much it is a bit easy to get lost.

Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing it with us. The area you guys rode looks like the desert I used to ride in south-central Arizona. Hot, dusty, rocky, rugged trails with who knows what you'll come across just over the next ridge. Can't say I miss that kind of country any longer. Of course almost all my desert outings were solo, so I wasn't in such a rush to get from one place to another like you guys seemed to be..
These days I'm content to enjoy life in Arizona's high country where the days are much cooler than the desert and forest trails beckon in every direction. I'll be recovered enough from contracting sepsis during surgery going on three months ago to get back out on my XT in short order - and that's something I'm looking forward to!..
..I'd rather have questions I can't answer, than answers I can't question.. Dr. Phil

Nice ride. I used to could ride like that, but no more. I'm just an old slow trail rider now. I wouldn't even try to ride an XT like that. I don't think it would last long. You need a hardcore dirt bike for that. The XT is (to me anyway) just a mild mannered trail bike, not an MX or enduro bike. I have never ridden in a group like that. All my off road riding and 99% of my street riding has been done alone.
The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary. 1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.

Great video. Sucks to ride behind another dirt bike kicking up dust in the desert. Lead rider is spared the dust storm.

A 3M 8511 mask will avoid that problem. It's really bad to inhale dust particles as it increases one's chances for silicosis and/or other pulmonary problems. Back in the day of Malcolm Smith such health concerns weren't considered. So make healthy choices and ride safely.
PS: "On Any Sunday" is a good movie to watch.
