Hello everyone, I am new to the forum, came here for knowledge and trouble shooting issues with my XT. I own a 1999 yama xt225 with just about 10k on it and its been an awesome bike. Looking forward to summer time riding. I live in the Portland, OR area. Fortunate to have lots of forest and backcountry roads close by. Planning on doing some overnighters and some touring with the XT this summer. Very stoked to have this forum as a tool and connect with like minded individuals. Cheers!

-Evan

You live in a great riding area. Lots of scenic highways and even some OHV areas to go play in. If I remember correctly Oregon requires you to purchase an OHV sticker. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome. I have a sister and brother in law that live in Forest Grove, about 20 miles west of Portland. It's the last little wide spot in the road out of town. 54 more miles and you are in Tillamook. I would love to have a bike up there. I drive up about twice a year. I usually spend a lot of time just out driving looking around. I love it up around Astoria. Absolutely beautiful.

10K miles is not much for an XT225 if it is taken care of. I bought my 1994 back in 2008, with 1800 miles on it. It now has almost 23K. I change the oil every 1000 miles, and it still runs like new. I've only adjusted the valves a couple of times, that's all it needed.

You have to have an OHV sticker here in AZ, and the bike has to be street legal and insured. The only places you can legally ride an actual dirt bike here is either on private property, like somebody's farm, or at an OHV park, which requires a registration, RV plate, OHV sticker, and you have to pay to get in. And it's usually crowded. Not many bikes. mostly those huge 4-6 passenger buggys. I never understood the appeal of those things. You can buy a new Jeep Wrangler for less.

The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

@d2reid Yes! a lot of great riding opportunities. If I can remember correctly I believe I have a few more months on my OHV pass. haha Will be checking that out next time I ride the bike.

@JerryH Thats awesome. Next time you're up in the area you'll have to get on a bike. Love that drive out to Tillamook and Astoria, both amazing rides.

Great to hear, I bought it May 20' with about 8k, and since then put 2k on it, may be ocd, but ive changed the oil, oil filter, o-rings, spark, clean/lube chain and clean/check air filter every 500ish miles. Getting ready to check/adjust valves and tune up very soon. Gearing up for summer riding

Dam, sounds like a lot to deal with just to ride some trails.
For sure, not a big fan either, would never be able to afford a buggy...and the trailer... and the truck... and the garage... and the time. lol.
