Is the Clark tank plug n play or are modifications needed? Do you not use the side panels with the new tank? Reusing the old petcock does it mount into plastic threads or are brass threads installed in the new tank? I'm thinking if the side panels are not reused and the old tank is good that will pay for the Clark tank plus make some profit if sold from what I read. I love the idea of 4 gallons vs just 2 gal range.

I love my Clarke tank. I have 2 of them, a blue one I'm using and a black one I bought for another bike. It's pretty much plug and play. The side panels fit fine, including the left one where it goes around the petcock. There are brass inserts where the petcock screws go. It does require a special gasket for the petcock, the bottom of the plastic tank is not as flat and hard as the steel tank, so it requires a cushier gasket to seal. I just had to replace that gasket on mine after several years. Most likely ethanol damaged it. All the parts needed to install the tank are included, and you can buy them separately from Clarke. I would not have been able to go a lot of the places I've been with the stock tank, due to a lack of range. I sold 2 oem steel tanks, the plastic shrouds that go on them, and the cap with a key (minus the petcocks) on eBay for about what the Clarke tanks cost. They sold fast. For some reason the stock tanks seem to be in high demand. The Clarke tank comes with special mounting brackets to mount the front of the side panels to.
I have an extra set of side panels, but am hanging on to them, since they are no longer available. Had I thought of it I might have kept one of the stock tanks as well. I was building the bike to suit my needs. And it was just a late model dual sport. But surprisingly enough, XT225s seem to be becoming collectors items. People are restoring them cosmetically.
The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary. 1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.

i'll 2nd the above. i got a deal on a used tank and installed it for a recent trip to death valley (200+ miles of range opens up a lot of options there!). besides the brackets for the side panels and the petcock gasket, there's another bracket for the horn. this was missing from my purchase but, i was able to modify the stock bracket by making another mounting hole in it and bending it to allow the horn to fit parallel to the frame (not enough clearance under the tank for it's original position). one other problem i had with my used purchase was the cap's breather valve being a little sticky. it idled fine in my garage but, the test ride revealed fueling issues that could be resolved by opening the cap. when i got home, blowing some compressed air through the breather (air needs to be able to enter the tank as fuel leaves) has solved that. if i were to buy new, i'd get the natural. i can't quite see the fuel level through my blue one... this video was very helpful for my installation; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEeY3v-2vVQ&t=481s

I also love my Clarke tank. Bought it years ago for my 1992 XT225, then transferred it over to my 2007 XT225 when I bought it. I chose the "Natural" color because I need to see at a glance just how much fuel I have left. ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/1SurdcB.jpg)

Shows up fine for me if I just click the links. Its Facebook, so they try everything to keep images from being linked. You'll have to find the "jpg" file name if you want them to show up.
