Does anyone know if it is possible to get a replacement Clarke petcock gasket? The Clarke tank comes with a thick flat gasket that goes between the petcock and the tank. The stock 0 ring type gasket only works with the stock tank, and will not seal with the Clarke tank. Mine started leaking, and it seems to be partly melted, probably from ethanol. I know Clarke used to sell parts for their tanks, but now I can't find anything except for complete new tanks.

The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

I suspect you'd be better off just making a gasket for it.

I could make a gasket, but I can see it failing when I'm 50 miles from home. I finally found an email address for https://clarkemfg.com/ and sent them an email asking if it is possible to buy the parts I need. I remember some time ago seeing a place that sold parts for Clarke tanks, but cannot find anything now. Clarke only shows new fuel caps on their site.

Jerry,
On one of my TW200's, I mounted a Clarke tank and had this problem. I ended up filing the mounting surface flat to get it to seal.

Clarke has notoriously poor customer service. Hopefully you have better luck connecting with them than others have had.

I had good luck with Clarke. I got an email response from them this morning, and ordered the parts. They said they should be here in a few days. The lady I talked to on the phone was very nice and polite. Oddly the email says the screws were not on their website, but I was able to order them anyway. The gaskets were not on the website either, only the cap. I decided to replace that too, the little fitting where the vent hose attaches has been broken off for some time.

Jerry,
Yes, you are able to purchase these gaskets #1289 and cap # 1378. Unfortunately the screws are not listed on our website, you can call to place order if you wish.

Jerry, thanks for posting the email with the part number! I have the tank as well and need to replace my whole petcock assembly. I figure it'd be a good idea to replace that gasket too, but wasn't certain how to find it. I'll call them and order it. grin

Hi there, I am also about to embark on a Clarke Tank install, my old original petcock is all rusty and needs to be rebuilt. I was thinking of buying a universal fit petcock (since they're less expensive than an OEM gasket, lol). I've seen the Clark petcock on their website, looks a lot like the universal ones that you can buy cheap on eBay? Should I go with universal, buy a Clarke petcock, or rebuild the original Yamaha to fit Clarke? - please vote 1-Uni, 2-Clrk, 3-Yama!

Hello,
Clarke says there XT225 tank is NOT compatible with the Clarke style petcock.
The original will fit Clarke but I would buy a new OEM Yamaha, not rebuild and not cheap universal.
Yep more $ but just do not trust the cheap ones from EBay riding out in the desert by myself!
A new OEM will last 15 years! Remember, you want reserve to work.
Have had 10 Clarke Gas Tanks, always had great customer service, never a leak!
One cap needed small rubber pulled out for breather.
Have always and still will, recommend them.
Tiffany always super knowledgeable and polite, yep no problems at all!!

Get a complete new petcock assembly from Yamaha while you can, and take care of it. If I am going to let the bike sit for a while (that can happen here when it is 120 degrees outside) I remove the tank, pour out the ethanol gas, then with the petcock open, spray some WD-40 through it to keep the rubber parts soft and pliable. Once it gets rusty and corroded from ethanol, it is not worth trying to rebuild. If it is in good condition it is rebuildable. Ethanol also tends to melt rubber parts.
