Hey there. I’m new to the XT225 world but not new to motorcycles. I’ve been riding for 40 years or so. I picked up a pair of XT225s a month or so ago. They are surprisingly close in comparison to my TW 200s. I haven’t had a chance to ride them much yet, but what little seat time I have had on them it was quite obvious that some DMO pegs were needed. Hopefully these will be my go to bikes for the rockier trails my girlfriend and I ride this coming season.

Welcome. I have been riding on the street for 45 years (since age 16) but started riding off road at age 8, on a Bultaco Lobito 100. I have had an XT225 (actually 3 of them) during the past 12 years. I am curious about the TW200. What do you think of them? I am partially disabled, and have to stand on something to get on and off the XT safely. The seat is low enough at the front, but the back is a lot higher, and I have trouble swinging my leg over that. Is the TW200 any easier to get on and off of than the XT?

The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Thank you. I used to ride with a guy that ran a Bultaco 250Matador that would keep up with my Yamaha 250 MX. The Tacos were cool machines. I bought my TWs new in 2019 and was on the fence between them and an XT250. The XTs were hard to find so I went with the TW so I could teach my girlfriend to ride. I dig the TW. It’s a ton of fun in all conditions but wanted something lighter. The TW is 278 pounds wet. The wide tires do give it a nice stable platform. The seat height is 3/4” or so lower than the XT but the seat is a bit wider. The springs on the TW seem to be stiffer, so you get less static sag. I’m 4’-11 and 95 pounds and think it’s actually easier to swing a leg over in the XT due to that amount of static sag. I can measure the height difference in the rear but side by side the XT looks taller.

Welcome to the group. I also had a TW200 for a while and really enjoyed it. Frequently wished it was a TW650 but I'll just have to wait until they build one.

Thanks all. I actually had a chance to ride over the weekend and pitted the TWs against the XTs. All in all they are very close in performance to each other.

I used to have a Kawasaki KLR650. It was just too big and heavy to be any fun off road. Even with a 34" inseam I couldn't flat foot it. At stoplights I would sit there and rock it back and forth from side to side. The XT225 is small enough and light enough that most riders can pretty much toss it around any way they want. Being disabled it is about the biggest dual sport I can handle anymore, and even then I have to take it slow and easy over the rough stuff.
