Hello. Thanks for the ad. I'm just now joining after owning Yamaha XTs for a long time. I'm 68, and have been riding motorbikes since about 1968. My first bike was a Yamaha DT175. Through the years, I've owned Triumph Bonnevilles, Harleys, BMWs, Moto Guzzis, Hondas, Ducatis, Yamahas and Suzukis. A few off brands too. I've had a lot of bikes, but I've most always kept an XT or DR around. I've owned 225, 250, 350, and 600cc XTs. I'm strictly on paved and smooth dirt/gravel roads in my old age. I ride, but I keep it sane. I have sold or given away all my big boy bikes, and now I own only an 2014 XT250 (fuel injected 5 speed model), and a 2017 DR650. I will ride them until I cannot throw a leg over the saddle, then I will get a step through scooter. I have a couple fellow retirees I ride with, and I go to a couple Guzzi rallies every year. Back in the day, I was a member of MGNOC, and FSSNOC. Looking forward to lurking and learning... My current XT:

Welcome Lorenzo. I also like to keep a DR650 around. Not great at anything but damn good at most things. I love it's low-tech approach - just like the XTs.

Welcome to the group, Lorenzo. Good looking XT250 you've got.

The biggest bike I've ever owned was a '57 BSA 650 twin 'Spitfire Scrambler', back in 1958. Came much too close to getting my ticket punched while riding that bike. I survived by the grace of God and sheer dumb luck. The BSA didn't. Since then every bike I've had has been a small displacement single cylinder machine, with the XT225 my all time favorite.

Nice to have you with us. Enjoy the site, take advantage of everything available here, and ride safely at all times!..

Welcome. Nice to hear you are still riding at 68. I'm 61, but have a few medical issues. Been riding since age 8. Started on a Bultaco Lobito 100. I've had over 50 bikes, including a couple of Goldwings and a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-11, the fastest bike sold in the U.S. when it came out in 1990. I no longer feel that I can safely hold up a large heavy bike in a parking lot or at a stoplight. I definitely could not push it around the garage. Scooters are a great idea. I have two, a 2006 Vespa GT200 and a 1979 P200E. The GT200 has a CVT belt drive, so there is no clutch or gearshift. Works great in stop and go traffic in town. Tops out at around 68 mph GPS. Easy to ride but I find it a bit boring. Too smooth and refined. The P200E is anything but refined. 2 stroke engine, kick start only, manual transmission and clutch, noisy, clunky, vibrates a lot, terrible handling, brakes work about as well as dragging your feet, but it's an absolute blast to ride, but it takes a lot of effort. But to me a bike is supposed to be a machine, and I think that a machine should have a few rough edges. It should sound and feel like a machine. That "mechanicalness" is missing from most newer bikes. I have never owned a bike with EFI or ABS, and never will. Might as well drive a car. I also have a Harley Sportster and a Royal Enfield Bullet. Both of them are real shakers. And they make beautiful sounds.

The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
