Hi All - Been a while!

I took the XT to the local track!

Completely stock, just with some road knobbies on it. Stuffed my lunch, Moka Pot and camping stove into a saddlebag with a jerrycan full of petrol in a backpack and rode out at 7am. I'd never been before, so I was a bit excited and nervous all at the same time.

Here's me zooming down the back straight on a sight lap

And, for your viewing pleasure, a full fifteen minutes of me having a crack on my final outing for the day:

After about 5:30 I start to get the hang of it.

Managed to scrape the pegs a couple times! For your reference, the top speed I tended to get on the straightaway was 110km/h and generally down to sixty for the more technical bits.... though take that with a grain of salt- one of the older hands taught me you go a lot faster if you don't watch your speed, so I didn't grin

Cool! Looks like a big track for little bikes. Something like a kart track would be a hoot on an XT. I did a few track days when I had my CBR. Great fun but too expensive for my budget.

I'd strongly recommend a very easy warm up lap and cool down lap, that little engine is working really hard. Watch your oil level as well.

Nice track and gorgeous weather. I always used Mobil I full synthetic oil changed every 500 miles. Can't hurt and I think helps reduce engine wear. That would be a great place to turn carbs and work out performance uses. Sounds like your bike is running well. Thanks for posting the video.

Very nice! Portions reminded me of Laguna Seca. Never had a chance to take a 2-wheeler out on an asphalt track. All my road days were in sports and race cars.

Ok, swap out the knobs for some road tires. maybe drop to a 19" on the front while you are at it. That front fender does grab some air. Swap it over for a YZ fender. Maybe remove the fork tube covers to further reduce aero drag.

Sadly with stock gearing and an 81-inch circumference rear tire that little motor is almost maxed-out doing 110 - 115km/h turning 7,000 RPM.

As noted above - good quality oil, synthetic, check tire pressures, clean air filter makes a bit of difference at high rpms, and tuck-in really tight!

Loved the videos!

The best bike to take to a track day is a track bike. It's a tool for one purpose (going fast) and so you don't worry about how it looks and you're not heart broken should it decide a close-up view of the asphalt is appropriate. It also makes the track conversion process easier. I can see you've still got mirrors in the shadow and you said you rode there. I'm a bit surprised they didn't make you remove the mirrors, turn signals, and brake light, and tape over the headlight. I'm guessing you also didn't have to safety wire the oil plug/filler or brake bolts? Change the oil and brake fluid after every weekend, it's good insurance.

This was a long time ago...

Yes, those pics are me. 2004 maybe? The pics were early in the day when they were making us play "follow the leader" with a control rider. The rear tire after 1 session. The tread was pretty much gone on the sides by end the of the weekend.
