Thanks for the info, I wonder if the fronts are the same on both bikes?

Wow. The condition of that rim is scary. I've never seen anything like that. The XT has been rumored to have weak rims, causing the spokes to pull through. I have 30,000 miles (48,280 kms) on mine and the wheels are fine other than some scratches. It had 1400 miles on it when I bought it. I do have another complete set of wheels if I ever need them. I live in AZ, U.S., HOT and dry. No rust. I have a Clarke aftermarket plastic 4 gallon tank. I had a '94 tank with graphics like that, but in green, white, and yellow. I sold it when I got the aftermarket tank. I never tried to keep my bike original. It has a ton of aftermarket parts on it. I had the seat refoamed and recovered in black marine vinyl with no logos on it. I never saw the XT as a collectors item, I bought it and modified it to ride. If I had a 1960s British scrambler, I'd take better care of that. Good luck with your project.

The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.
