I happened to notice this. I can't tell if Muniac's screw is snagging on something and the jousting is associated with that or if the screw is coming loose/falling off at which point the skid plate drops down and does the jousting. In the former, a shallower truss head screw may be enough. In the latter, some Loctite to keep the screw in place may do the job. I think the screw is an M6. I guess you might be able to drill and tap it for an M7. But that seems like overkill. Mine never came loose but I just run around town on it.

In my case the 6mmx1 skid plate screw let go. Causing the skid plate front drop down. This is VERY DANGEROUS on the trails for obvious reasons. The screw came on/off during routine oil changes many times weakening it. It's a funky design with how it lines up through the grommet. After the skid plate take many skids, that screw doesn't line up well which hastens its failure. I welded in a SS 1/4-20 machine nut on the bracket. Then you can pick your fastener head style. Lots of options in that thread size. A button head (allen key) would be good until it gets smacked on a rock then knackered. I just used a socket head cap screw, leaving me with the vise grip option.

It was the female threads on the bike that got damaged enough they wouldn't hold a screw. 6mmx1 is a delicate thread. I believe 1/4" is 6.35mm so that American size is close to OEM. Good luck.
