My friends xt225ís oil drain plug is toast. You canít get a grip on it anymore, heís about to take it to the shop. Iím wondering if we could just break the plug off since itís aluminum? How would we do this and where can I find a replacement? I donít want to damage the engine

Can you get a grip on it with a pipe wrench or a pair of vise grips?I would not try to break the plug off.

I wouldn't try to break it off either. Too much risk of messing up the case.

Penetrating oil around the flange. Apply heat to the case but not the plug. Heat it until the oil starts to smoke, then stop and let it cool. Do that 3-4 times before you try to turn it. The heat cycles will help the oil get in there and break the joint loose.

Grip it with vice grips and tap the vice grips with a hammer. A manual impact driver might also work. Or, cut a slot in it, stick a cold chisel in the slot, put a wrench on the chisel, and tap the wrench with a hammer.

New plug...

Put a bit of oil on the threads of the new plug.

He ended up taking it to a shop and the fixed it for him. Now his clutch won’t catch anymore. He kinda gave up on it and went for payments on a new bike haha.. oh well. Maybe he will fix it soon.
