I was on the most technical section of an enduro course that I had previously never seen, and ended up riding my clutch much harder than normal. At a point, it felt like it just gave up and wouldn't engage anymore. It simply wouldn't engage despite being in gear. I adjusted the clutch lever all the way in, and was able to get it to go, but it seems like a clutch rebuild is in my future.
Is rebuilding a clutch similar to rebuilding a carb? You just buy a kit and replace specific components??

.....Is rebuilding a clutch similar to rebuilding a carb? You just buy a kit and replace specific components??.. Since this is all new to you I'd suggest you start by viewing a few XT225 clutch rebuild videos like THIS ONE so you can visualize how to go about rebuilding the clutch on your bike..
..I'd rather have questions I can't answer, than answers I can't question.. Dr. Phil

Yes, get a kit with friction rings and steels. Pull the old one out, put the new one in, check the stack height, it's not especially hard. You'll likely need a clutch basket tool to hold it stationary while installing/removing the nut. The complications come when you try to reuse parts and the stack height isn't right.
This shall pass, be still and know. 2006 XT225, UNI filter, ProTaper bars, MSR handguards, SS front brake line, Shinko 241's.

I did clutches on both bikes at around 10k miles before a riding trip we were planning. Some years back now. I measured the thickness of the old discs and the new ones. To my surprise each disc showed only -.0005" of wear. I was expecting much more. I think the spring that presses all the plates together should be replaced. I had no way of measuring its constant (K).
I used all Yamaha OEM parts for the rebuild. I recalled cleaning the engine case gasket surfaces to be a PITA. Don't recall needing any special tools either, although they help with stubborn fasteners. Be very careful with the engine case through bolts. Snapping one off will really suck. Good idea to replace with SS socket head cap screws and use anti-seize compound. Make sure the gasket surfaces are perfectly clean! Use a good grade of non hardening gasket sealer. Like Permatex. Keep it warm and let it sit overnight before adding any oil. Helps to secure a good seal. Good luck with the repair.

I'm trying to purchase on Rocky Mountain because there are some other items I'm getting there and want to hit the free shipping. I'm having a hell of a time finding a clutch kit for our bike there.

The diagram for your clutch is HERE. The springs that are involved are #11 & #22. The compression spring pushes the discs together. If it's weak you're clutch may slip. While the bike is apart, you might as well replace all parts pertaining to what ensures good power transfer. That was where I was headed with the suggestions. OEM parts are always best as they will always fit and perform properly. Good luck with the repairs.
