From what I just listened to on THIS VIDEO it's being reported that 2020 is the final year for Yamaha's XT250. What they'll be replaced with apparently has yet to be revealed. Some suggest that Yamaha's 2021 XTZ 'Lander' 250 will be its replacement - but apparently that's not the final word in this. Anyone with further information or insight please chime in..

George - Thanks for the heads up. We're in times of change for sure. Be interesting to see what Yamaha has on the plate.

Wow! Will need to see what they bring out next. Maybe something in the 360 - 450 range. Seems that is where a lot of action is these days for those who want an adventure bike without the heft or price of a 750 - 900.
Adding some Adventure to my life. Orange County, CA '07 XT225

I think it'll still be a 250, just something more adventur-y like the Honda 250 rally.
This shall pass, be still and know. 2006 XT225, UNI filter, ProTaper bars, MSR handguards, SS front brake line, Shinko 241's.

For me the XT250 ended in 2013 when they put a computer on it. But having sat on one way back when it first came out, I seriously prefer the XT225 anyway. The XT had a slightly taller seat, which is the last thing I need. My XT225 is carbureted, and has the centerstand, which nobody ever made for the XT250. The 250 also uses a paper air filter, which makes it kind of worthless in the AZ desert. You would be constantly replacing those expensive paper filters when you can just wash out the 225's foam filter in gas, reoil it, and put it back. It can be cleaned many times, and is also cheap new. However, getting rid of the 250 would leave Yamaha with only the TW200 as a trail bike, and they will probably get rid of that as well. There is still the Suzuki DR200, carburetor and all.
The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary. 1994/2001 custom built XT225 with a ton of aftermarket parts.

Jerry, I'm with you on preferring the XT225 over the 250. I've owned and ridden both bikes, and for my purposes the lighter weight 6 speed XT225 just works better, especially off-road on back country trails..
