Just rejoined the motorcycle community after a 33-year absence. Have been riding and racing road, track, and mountain bikes for quite some time instead. No - not hanging up the bicycles but adding some horsepower for the climbs!
One of my cycling buddies recently acquired two Honda Groms. Outfitter's them with knobby tires and said - hey let's start trail riding. So my search began for a proper dual-sport bike. Wont bore with you the frustrating details of my two-month search, dealing with sellers that flaked out more often than a box of cereal. I finally found my 2007 XT225 in San Diego - about 80 miles from my home in Orange County. It was worth the trip.
One quick test ride and before I could turn the bike around I knew I was taking it home. Not a beauty queen but clean enough, straight, low miles, and well taken care of.
Will be fixing her up over the next few months. That and getting some more trail riding practice.
FYI - may be posted here somewhere - a little white vinegar, isopropyl alcohol, and steel wool worked wonders on the pitted aluminum forks. Can post photos of that process later.
Looking forward to time on the trails.
Joined IMGUR - thanks for the suggestion!
First trail ride - Maple Springs to Main Divide in Orange County
And yes, the Groms made it. Albeit a long way behind me!
