Anyone have advice on where to look for a 58T rear sprocket that will fit our bikes?

quaziau,

We understand that you want more torque but what I am wondering and I think Paul49 is why you need that low of gear/torque? What kind of trail or riding are you doing or planning?

The first XT I road I think had a 58 on the rear and 1st was basically unusable on the road. You could easily start from 2nd.

What is brutal for a chain is putting new sprockets on. You should be using a new chain when changing the sprockets.

I do have a new chain to go with the new sprockets.

I was initially planning on doing an 30/70 mix on/off. Its now looking more likely that the 70 off I will be doing is going to be far more technical than the xt is designed for. It will be less service roads and more single track on an enduro course.

I've always had good luck with DID-428 O-ring chains. They wear well and last a long time. The stock sprockets are mild steel and wear easily. Especially the 15 tooth drive sprocket. Good idea to keep an eye on that one and keep a spare in stock.

Give the 58 tooth sprocket a shot and see how it works for what you have in mind. You'll never really know till you try..

Got any vids or pics of what you intend riding. These bikes will tackle most anything less than you'd need a pukka trials iron to do.

I'll post some embarrassing videos next time I can get out on the trails.

I am mostly riding at a motorsports club near by. We have 2 sets of trails and a trials park. 1 trail for 4x4 jeep offroading and an 11 mile single track enduro loop. There is also a motocross track, but it gets very little use. The guys I'm riding with are very much advanced riders. These guys compete as amateurs and are at the stage of life allowing them to take extended trips around the country for competitions. I'm on the Xt225, and a buddy around my skill level is on a crf250. The rest of them are all on 2 strokes... beta 300, KTM 350, Husky 300, Husky 350, etc.

They claim that if you can successfully complete the 11 mile loop there, you can ride anywhere in the country. I've only seen bits and pieces of it so far.
