Is 'Oil in the Air Box' common
for the XT225, through the years ?

Not sure, but I am in the process
of narrowing it down to :

> Too Much Oil on the Air Filter
> Blow-by
> Too Much Oil in the Crankcase

Two out of three above, are easy
to fix. laugh

I have a '97, and experience that, and am pretty sure I do not have too much oil on the filter, and not too much in crankcase. That leaves blow by, but nothing else seems to be amiss, so I don't worry about it.

Yea, same-here.

I try not to worry about it, to much, also,
but, I just don't like my dog,
marking his territory
everywhere we stop. mad

All three of those reasons could do it. If you are using air filter specific oil, that would be easy to identify. Checking the sight glass would eliminate the over filled crankcase possibility. Blow-by the most likely cause, would be more prevalent when riding at too high of rpm,s.

If you are dripping oil every where, you may want to check for a leak somewhere else entirely.

After a ride, it is usually one drop.
Under Left Peg/Kick Stand.

That is my only-leak.

When I put the stand down, I run my
hand across the bottom of the Air Box
and it comes back, wet mad mad

Blow-by.

Use transmission oil on the air filter to distinguish between the two. An over oiled air filter will stop within a day or two but blow-by is the gift that keeps on giving. smile

If it's blow-by, the engine will be using oil....how much is it using? Requiring regular top up?

I always have oil drips under my left peg, it comes off my chain. I loves an oily chain, Scottoiler set liberally.

Too many drips are usually 'cos I need to clean out behind the sprocket cover. Get a build up of crud there, holds the oil.

For the air filter, I do it by the book, thoroughly clean the filter then put it in a butty bag with 30ml of filter oil & squelch it in. Works fine for me. No excess.
