Hello everyone,
When I engage my clutch after shifting into 3rd or 4th gear and accelerate hard, my clutch seems to slip. The engines revs very high without the acceleration I would normally expect, something is certainly off. If I accelerate gently, then the problem isn't that bad. I have tried adjusting the clutch lever/wire several times but it does not fix the problem. My bike is approaching 20k miles (3rd owner) and I was thinking maybe I should replace the clutch disks and springs. Is it normal for the clutch to wear out around then? What do you guys think could be the problem? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Clutch life depends largely on how the bike has been ridden. If not abused, a clutch can last well beyond 50k miles, but you can also burn one up in less than a minute.

The normal way to check for a worn clutch is to ride up to about 50 mph in 6th gear and whack the throttle wide open. If it's gonna slip, that's when it will. If your bike is slipping in 3rd or 4th gear... I'd say that's a good indication that it's done. Unless it doesn't slip in 5th and 6th too (which would be odd)?

This is what I'm not understanding. Should be slipping worse in high gear. confused

I have been riding it pretty hard so it could certainly be the problem. I will bring it up to 6th and try what you said peejman, I think I may not have noticed it then because I don't open my throttle as hard as in 3rd and 4th. Thanks guys!
