That's an interesting find, Craig. It's claimed to fit the XT225, and that might be right. For the low asking price it would be to someone's advantage to order one and see if it actually fits. If it does it's a cheap way to get what you want. If not you can always get your money back by selling it to the GY6 engine crowd.

If you get one you'd still need a kick start lever, which apparently doesn't come with the kit. Other than that it looks to be all there.

Had a kick starter on one of my XT225s. Used it a couple of times to make sure it worked. Other than that it was never needed, so I'm not much of an advocate for installing a kick starter on these little bikes. Of course if you do need it it's better having it than not!..

Actually they are very easy to bump start, I've had to do it a couple of times when the battery was dead.
It doesn't thrill me at all to kick start a bike anymore.

Bump starting isn't always an option. When it is it works well. When it's not and your battery's dead, you'll wish you had a kick starter.

In normal circumstances kick starting would be my last choice. The only 'thrill' in kick starting an XT225, easy as it is to do, would be when you're stuck in a tough off road spot with a dead battery, you kick it, the engine fires up and you're on your way again. As you head home you'll know that installing a kick starter was a smart move!..

The kick starter kit shown HERE supposedly works with the XT225. If that proves to be the case, then at less than $15 it would be a great addition to anyone's XT225. The only obvious downside (short of it proving to not work on the XT225) is that the kit appears to come without a kick start lever for the XT. If it works as advertised and a XT225 kick start lever can be found, it would be an inexpensive alternative to a very expensive Yamaha branded XT225 kick start kit, if one of those can even be located these days.

The parts look similar to the contents of the OEM kit I installed several years ago (sans lever, of course).

My kick starter has gotten me out of the woods many times, great addition to the bike for the way I use it.

The interesting thing about the ad for that kick starter kit is it says it works with the XT225. As inexpensive as it is, compared to the kit Yamaha marketed for a long time, and as simple as it should be to add a kick start lever that works with the XT225, it would be worthwhile for someone in the market for a kick starter for their bike to give that kit a go. If for some reason it doesn't work, send it back for a refund. But if it fits the XT like the ad specifically says it does, then they'd be miles ahead dollar outlay wise compared to a nearly impossible to find Yamaha branded kit.

I just received the cheap kickstart kit, But see the large gear is semi-circular, only half a gear. The gear in the Yamaha instructions is a full gear. Not sure I should even try installing it.

What do you do about the kick arm anyways? Looking at the picture it looks like it's missing a few pieces even if it fits.
