Hi Kris,

I only tweeked my XT250. Team Cabra's carb remains untouched! Yes she runs a little rich, and hesitates when around 50mph but she starts on the button and the choke can be turned off after a ride of 300 yards, even when the temps around 0 deg C.

Reggie

Team Cabra, Brazilian XT225, Team Ukulele, Japan import XT225, a 250 to be named and loads of 2 stroke Kawasaki AR's!

My '07 has only 1 washer. I don't think the washer will make any difference.

Starting, won't be a function of the main jet at all.

One or two washers will make no difference. Fuel LEVEL in the float bowl WILL cause differences, but the distance that the main jet extends (completely) into the fuel...doesn't.

Kris, there are a number of people on this excellent Site that can advise you about this better than I can. I've been fortunate (like most XT225 owners) to have bikes that have fuel levels within the proper ranges. I know this because the bikes "carb" correctly through all RPMs and throttle openings, with the stock jets. And, if I change altitude radically, the ways that I compensate WORK.

The service manual shows two ways to go: One is with an external transparent fuel line, and the other is to take the carb completely off the bike and hold it upside down and measure the float height. IN MY OPINION, this is the best way, though far more tedious. And, it presumes that there is no leakage into the floats or poor sealing at the
float valve needle.

I would advise not to mess with this unless you have a reason to, which would also save you some work.

That said, if you have particular issues that are bothering you about your bike, please post and one of us will likely be able to make recommendations...as well as advise if we think fuel level height plays into your problem.

Alexd

One check you can try, go for a run and turn the fuel off as you are riding - the bike will run for quite a while before running out and dying, but if performance gets better before it runs dry, then check float height. The method described in the manual with the external bit of tubing, (ignore the references to the special pipe/tool, any bit of tube will do) is easy to do. Mine was wayyyyy out, so I took the carb apart and followed the precedure to check the height with the bowl off, which was 10mm out of tolerance. The effect of fixing this was the loss of the bogging down I suffered at small throttle openings. I have pictures I can publish of this if it helps.

yes please i very rarely at high speed for a few seconds get a engine stumble if i shut the throttle off for a split second then carry on it sorts itself out i may be getting to picky as the bike performs very well and with a 14t engine sprocket and standard rear sprocket will hit 75 with no effort at all and return about 75 mpg i use this off road and has pots of power so basically its runs 99 per cent perfect
