My XT250 has an issue.
When the weather was "colder" outside (0° to 10°C) she runs normally. Requires choke to cold-start and once warmed, performs admirably with little to none of that awful exhaust braaap that I detest.

With the weather warming up lately (up to 22°C) I find that she can cold-start without choke and once warmed up, that annoying braaap returns! I get a lot more backfiring when the weather is warmer, too.

To me....this sounds like a jetting issue. All of my other bikes need or needed choke to cold-start, regardless of the temp.
I'm guessing that she's running too rich right now, but the question is can I correct this by tweaking the mixture screw or do I need to replace the pilot jet?
I'm thinking the main jet is probably right...according to the manual, the stock Main is a #135 and the Pilot jet is #34.
I guess I'll have to rotate my carb and have a look-see...

Yep, sounds rich. You could remove the air filter for a bit and see how it runs with the extra air.

This shall pass, be still and know.

Is the pilot jet accessible without removing the carb?

Yes, you can remove the float bowl and access the jets with the carb on the bike. If needed, you can loosen the clamps and rotate the carb in place for a little better access. It's recommended to replace the bowl screws with M4 socket head cap screws for easier removal/installation with a ball-end allen wrench.

err... you've got a 250, right? Don't know how easy it is there. I'd guess it's similar but I'm not sure.

OK...after spending the last 2 hours on this one, I've given up.
I don't know how I'm supposed to "rotate the carb" when there is no room to rotate it!

As you can see, there is frame and other stuff all round this one...it's very well protected...on BOTH sides.

There is NO side that I can get at this one...period!
At this point, I simply put it all back together.

Looks like I'm going to have to live with that awful BRAAAAAP...or sell it.

I miss my TW so much.........................
