Trying to sort out a new rear sprocket for my 2001 XT. I did the math and I've decided that an OEM 15T front and a 50T rear is the way I want to go with the tires I finally bought. My question is how to buy the rear? As I understand it, the earlier drum brake models use a dished sprocket (like I have) while on the later disc brake models the sprocket is perfectly flat. Yet none of the usual parts places seem to make any distinction between the two types. Also, there are dozens of "sprocket bolt" sets available, all of them are nuts and flanged bolts to fit the chamfered holes in the aftermarket sprockets. How does that work with the OEM studs/nuts and the threaded holes in the hub?

Best of my knowledge, all US market 225's had drum brakes. Some have converted to disks with 250 parts, but the drum was stock on the 225 so I'd say all the part numbers you see should be for the dished/offset rear sprocket.

As long as the bolts have the correct thread, I'd assume they'll work in the rear hub.

Thanks peejman, I called Motosport and the girl there understood what I was talking about but she just gave me the old "it's only a generic picture" answer. I took a chance and ordered the sprocket - we'll see what shows up on the BBT next week. I hate not being 100% sure about what I'm ordering.

What was the outcome?

There is a 50T SunStar sprocket on eBay that appears to be dished.
