I have a 2000 with the single throttle cable. Can i switch it over to the latter push pull dual cable? What is needed to make the swap?

I have an '08 Honda CRF230L with the 'push/pull' dual throttle cable system. I've also had a number of XT225's with the single throttle cable system. I really can't imagine there's a reasonably cost effective way to modify the XT in this manner.

Adapting an entirely different carburetor to the bike, along with the required 'push/pull' throttle linkage, if such a 'push/pull' carb that precisely fits the bike could be found, might work..

More than likely such a project would turn out to be over the top costly. People own and ride these light weight dual-sport bikes precisely because they're go anywhere, easy to handle, highly reliable machines that won't break the bank needing exotic configuration changes to get the most out of them.

You'd likely be pouring good money down the drain trying to make such a carburetor change work -- but it is an interesting question. Keep us posted as you pursue an answer that makes good sense from all angles.

I'd think all you'd need is the new cable and the plate off the side of the carb. A salvage yard might be a good option for the plate.

Just to followup on peejman's response, my XT225 is a 2001 and it has the dual throttle cables. And according to the parts schematics on Partzilla, that is the first year for the dual cable setup. So unless the folks in CA decided that the carb on the 2000 model was killing baby whales or something, it should be a simple part exchange.
