I found a '13 XT250 for a good deal. Typical of my "good deals" the bike has low compression, what I'm pretty sure is piston slap under a load, needs a battery, needed a drill to remove the spark arrestor for maintenance, wheel bearings, and the list will go on, I'm sure. (It wasn't that good of deal, lol.)

On the other hand, the bike is nimble and almost effortless to ride off-road. I might have stumbled onto a bike I could really like.

Does anyone else think it is odd that you need an 8mm socket to remove the seat, a 5mm hex to remove a side cover and a 4mm hex to remove another side cover -- to get to the tool kit?

Hi Retmotor,

all I did with my previous XT250's was to replace the toolkit cover bolts with wing nuts, easing the access. On my latest bike the previous owner has replaced them with knurled knobs, which is even easier but doesn't stand out as accessible to those with light fingers!

Welcome! I have fond memories of riding the Mohave in the early '60s.
