Have had a couple great rides over the last month, Saturday was especially good! We rode from Boise to Trinity Mountain Lookup and back. About 140 miles overall...
We started out in Boise, met at a buddy's house. From there we rode out the old Oregon Trail east of town.
(See Oregon Trail marker in picture).
From there, we rode around the Danskin mountains, up the South fork of the Boise river to the little town of Prairie. Prairie to Trinity Mountain Lookup via other misc forest service roads. The elevation of the lookout is about 9,500 ft.
(See look out at the very peak of the mountain)
(You can barely see a forest fire off in the distance, fortunately we had a really clear day for the ride, the last 3-4 weeks have been pretty smokey here in Idaho)
We had lunch and headed back to Boise via the same route. We stopped in Prairie on the way back to top off. I got a little over 75mpg. Sometimes I wonder if I'm running too lean but she seems to run great, no issues. Plus I'm not into the throttle a whole lot..
As we are almost back to Boise, I hear a rock kick up, sounded kind of funny then hear this other hiss sound. The bike started to get a little squirrely... I pulled over, looked and I had a flat tire. Upon further inspection, a spoke broke and got shoved into the tire/tube causing the flat.
Fortunately we were close enough to Boise (10 miles away) that it was easier to call my wife to come get me then attempt to change the tube on the road.
All in all, it was a great ride for the labor day weekend. Made me realized that I probably wasn't prepared enough to change a tube on the trail. Highly recommended for those close to the area... or for those that do the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route, I think it's an optional detour as the route passes within 10 miles or so of the site.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the pictures, they don't really do the view justice.
And for good measure, here's the elevation changes we went through...
