Looking at a low-mileage 2009 XT250 in my area.

It is carburetted instead of FI and I'm just looking to get some feedback from members as to whether the '09 or the carb'ed bikes are any good...major or minor issues with that model year...etc.

They are good bikes with no issues that I know of.

Hi Qwazert,

It depends on which market the bike was supplied to as new, it could be either carb or FI in that year. I've owned both types without problems and have covered very high mileages. A mate had a fuel pump go on hers after about 20,000 miles. The bikes are very durable, if correctly serviced (which is an easy task on such simple bikes). Enjoy your purchase experience and the bonding with a new steed.

According to the owner, it is the carburetted version, so I'll assume there is no fuel pump.
Good to know about the "high mileage" factor...do you know if the carb is a Mikuni or a Tikkei?

How about the rear hub on the 250's...are they made of chalk like the 225's?

Hi There,

Mine have all been Japan models so have come complete with the tubeless rear wheels which are much stronger than the US spec option.

The 250's do not have any of the rear hub problems like the 225's did.

Hi There,

mainly because most of the US 225's had rear drum brakes, rather than the discs fitted to the 250 and to all Japan bikes after the 225 upgrade.
