I just picked up this Xt225 (2002) and noticed a large smog canister (that a cc?). I figured there would be some california smog trash on here that id like to remove. Maybe there, carb changes, airbox changes, etc.
Anyone have any tips? Searched around the forums, couldnt land anything.

That burrito you ate for lunch weighs more than that canister; just say'in. There's a few common mods folks like to make. A little searching will yield plenty of threads... 3 turn mod - remove the plug covering the mixture screw in the bottom of the carb and set it to 3 full turns out from bottom. Snorkel shortening or complete removal. This typically goes along with replacing the OE air filter with a UNI or K&N type filter that's less restrictive. This also makes more noise. Z1 mod - modify the stock exhaust to open it up. There's a baffle plate in the exhaust behind the spark arrester. Take the spark arrester out (not so easy sometimes), enlarge the hole in the baffle to increase flow (and noise), and reinstall the spark arrester. Aftermarket exhaust is also available. Mods beyond the 3 turn also typically require new jetting. When doing both the snorkel and Z1, the typical is a 42.5 pilot jet (40 is stock) and a 130 main jet (125 is stock). The needle generally does not require shims.
This shall pass, be still and know. 2006 XT225, UNI filter, ProTaper bars, MSR handguards, SS front brake line, Shinko 241's.
