Just returning from a trip to the NorthWest and happen to be a short 14 miles from Clark Tanks. Short story is I now have a New Clark Natural/Translucent Tank. They had blue & black in stock but kindly produced my tank over the weekend. Nice people with two building on property, one a sales room & storage and the other the production building. Suppose to get a shirt mailed to me as my size was out of stock. Saved a little over anything I have seen online but worth it as I was there. Would not travel just to get the tank as online price are nearly as good as I got. Will be home soon and install. Will be selling my metal tank, all Black and no rust in the in-line filter in the two years I have now own the bike. List of mods is nearly complete!

What's the range with a Clarke tank?

Stock tank is 2.3 US gal

Clarke is 4.1 US gal

So, Clarke range is 1.78 times the stock range. smile

11.3 lbs of extra gas. Being plastic, I'd doubt the tank itself would weight much more than the stock tank.

Does the Clark tank use the stock petcock? Is there any info on how much "reserve" gas is in the Clark tank?

Hi peej,

I don't have one but have researched them a bit. Yes, it uses the stock petcock. Not sure how big the reserve is, but I have heard/read that some of the fuel can get "trapped" in the right side of the tank. Sort of a forced reserve. To get access to the remaining fuel, the bike needs to be stopped and leaned way to the left. This bugs some people enough that they modify the tank with a tube which connects the two sides of the tank, near the bottom.

I bought the Clarke tank for my 1992 XT225 and when I ended up with a 2007 model I transferred the tank to the new bike. Love this thing! For those who live in populated areas a larger tank may not necessary but where I live it's either that or carry a spare gas can.
I'd post a photo but no idea how to do that anymore what with the Photobucket debacle.

Will be home tomorrow and start the install. When I have both tanks off, I will take a side by side pic. Also there is a really good video on youtube, "XT 225 CLARKE FUEL TANK INSTALLATION" by blancolirio. I tried to copy/paste the link but would not work at the location I am at now. A search on youtube of the title or youtuber will easily produce the video.

I thought it used the stock petcock, but wasn't sure. The fuel cross-over issues are common with this "saddlebags" style tank.

A friend had a DRZ with a monster 7+ gallon tank for a while. We called him the Exxon Valdez as he acted as a supertanker should anyone else in the group need gas. It took him a while to figure out that he didn't have to fill it up all the time and carry all that extra weight. The bike was pretty unwieldy off road with a full tank.

7+ gal. ! Yep, that's some serious weight on a bike like a DRZ. I am sure it raises the center of gravity considerably. Oddly (or perhaps no so oddly) that size of tank is more appropriate on a heavier bike, IMHO.

Regarding the 4.1 Clarke on the XT; I've hmmmed and hawed about it for a couple of years. The price kept me away at first, and then I added a huge top-box to my rear rack which can accommodate a 1 gallon plastic gas can (along with a bunch of other stuff), which serves the purpose very well. I rarely need to use it, but I like knowing that it is there.

Long term, it looks like I am going to be moving on to a DR650 next spring, so I no longer ponder the Clarke tank for the XT.

Home but on weed control. Yup it rains (monsoons) in AZ during the summer and weeds grow like crazy. Installation will be delayed plus have to take a quick drive to a Sky Island (near Safford) for a future trip / adventure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_island

Finally going to get to ride tomorrow/Sat. Important because I filled the tank before I left on the NorthWest trip so water would not condense in the tank and I don't want to use the fuel in the new tank. So have to ride it out but at least after tomorrow I can start taking the metal tank off.
