Riding up the control road to the top tomorrow. Will be interesting as I will be riding with a CRF230 and WR250r. Also first ride with some distance nearly 60 miles round trip with nearly 4,000 feet of elevation change. Bikes are loaded & GPS is set. Should be fun.

Enjoy your ride Rocmoc, and be safe. Back side of Mt. Lemmon is challenging in spots but lots of fun as well. ..Enjoy!

Had a successful & good ride. Bike performed GREAT! My personal need is to make the bike look more aggressive & masculine. This is my own hang-up from riding a CRF450r motocross bike for the last 13 years. BUT every time I go out the bike does everything I want except the crack the throttle, fishtail, lay a roost or lift the front wheel over whoops or a ledge. Will change the tank and turn signal lights for the new look.

The trail, control road, for me is a glad I did it but don't need to do it again. IMHO, You ride for 20 miles in the foothills to get to the the more challenging fun 9 miles of the ride. The buddies I rode with rated the ride a 3 & 5 out of 10. I agree.

Bottom line is the XT225 did an excellent job!

Rocmoc - have you done any riding near Sonoita/Elgin area? What areas or trails would you recommend areas south of Tucson?

Thanks

The riding in Sonoita/Elgin area is all on easier dirt roads & Forest Roads. Nothing hard but the San Rafael Valley is beautiful at any time of the year. Everything is marked. The best off-road riding is at the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area with some real trails that are again really Forest Roads. They have a map at the Visitors Center. Drive into the center and then then move to the old airport runway. Ride for hours. Many videos on youtube for both places. This is the old Empire Ranch. There is more but this will keep you for several trips. The local forest HQ office has a GREAT map of all of the forest roads in the area from Sierra Vista to Arivaca. I got my maps at the office in Rio Rico. Good luck, some good riding but most requires a Driver's License. Tough to find a place to take a kid riding! The Backcountry Discovery Route starts at the Southern edge of San Rafael Valley near the Mexico Border. Ride the area a couple times a month.

You are welcome. Don't forget Box Canyon out of Green Valley off of Madera Canyon Rd. We will be riding Box Canyon Monday or Tuesday.

Box Canyon is an interesting and scenic run. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Take plenty of water as the heat is on. Ride safely.

Just returned from a week in Tucson, had a chance to explore Box Canyon, Madera Canyon also Empire Ranch/Las Cienegas. Great scenery, flowering saguaro cacti, great thirst.

I heard about area SE of Patagonia that has good riding trails: Mowry Wash, Harshaw, Washington Camp, 12 Tanks...
Rocmoc: is that (part of) the "Backcountry Discovery Route" you referred to?

Look fwd to more South-of-Tucson-area exploring, my brother is partner in winery based in Elgin AZ, so I go visit periodically. Gotta try the Cuban burrito at Los Betos, also carne seca at the downtown El Charro is a Tucson must IMO.

Thanks.
