Hi guys:
Really good comments about how many miles everybody puts on these bikes. I just wonder how can you take over 50 miles on the uncomfortable factory seat? any sugestions for a better ride? Thanks!!!

...Really good comments about how many miles everybody puts on these bikes. I just wonder how can you take over 50 miles on the uncomfortable factory seat? any suggestions for a better ride? Thanks!!! I have had my XT for only ~18 months, but am on a 1000 miles/year pace. Re the seat, last winter's upgrade project was a new seat from Seat Concepts. There a number of posts about this, such as this one: New Seat Concepts Seat !, and unlike many of the others, the images in this one are still visible. TIP : I ordered mine during a 1-week Thanksgiving sale: Seat Concepts is having a 15% off sale through Monday. That means that the total cost for their seat for the XT225 drops from $174.99 to $168.69, including shipping. Coupon code: BFCM2016 Obviously, that coupon code is obsolete, but watch for a sale at the end of November. My seat upgrade felt a little firm at first, but either it or my butt is breaking in, and it's a significant improvement over stock, although I am still toying with the idea of pulling the cover, and dishing the mid-section a little for more of a "tractor seat" contour, possibly topped with a layer of memory foam. Probably not worth the effort.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke, don't break it if you can't fix it.

I canna be ar*ed getting clobbered up & unlocking garage & bike chains/locks unless I'm going out for the day, so it's always approx 100 miles albeit with plenty of stops for brews & lunch at caffs. The stock seat is a proper pita! I bought a Coleman seat cover off one of the boys on this forum who was giving up his xt. It don't solve the problem, but deffo an improvement. Worst bit of the seat imo, is it sends me into the tank. Maybe flatter would help 'cos front's narrower. See link, similar to my seat cover. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Coleman-Comfort-Ride-Seat-Protector/dp/B006JMK7N8

Just a quick +1 for the Coleman seat cover, same as the Mad Dog cover I think, currently $15 on Amazon...looks great, fits well, pretty comfortable, adds a noticeable amount of seat height. May even try stacking two of them, since I ordered a 2nd to try to make my Honda NH750 more like a dirt bike.
1999 XT225, 130/40, stock IN/EX (except for Uni, AlexD removable airbox plug mod), 3 turns out, .030" shim, Shinko 244s, 80MPH.
