Looks nice. I raised my bars with some cheap 1.125" straight risers which fortunately seem to be about right for my build and didn't require changing any cables or the brake line.

I put the Skene lights on the front, attached to the fork pinch bolts. Here is a slow-motion video to show how they flicker to grab the attention of cagers. These also have a feature where you can tap the brakes while going through an intersection and the lights will flash an alert pattern.

Hey Gary. I watched a bit of that video and gotta say the lights are definitely attention grabbing. Had to quit watching 'cause I thought I'd probably have a seizure of some sort if I didn't!..

Yes AZ4x4! I agree. Now, if you dump you bike on a trail, you could break one of the lights. But if your bike is on road and off, I think they help for visibility. The controller for the Skene lets you add more lights to same controller. I may add side marker LEDs too. I've been cut off so many times.

Sounds like, given the traffic you have to contend with, you may be in the Valley metro area, or possibly Prescott, Tucson or Flagstaff. Wherever you are the main thing is to ride safely, defensively at all times. If you ride at night and the extra lighting helps, more power to you..

Added two PIAA horns. I think I have one more mod left in this build.

Outstanding chronicle of your project. I especially like your mention of the little things (i.e. chain tensioner) that a new owner of an older bike might not think to check.

A little off topic, but you mention LED lighting so I thought I'd ask. My XT has aftermarket LED turn signals, the seller mentioned that an LED resistor was necessary for them to operate correctly. While I understand the principle, do you have any suggestions specific to this bike?

Again, thanks for taking the time to educate us new owners.

You can get an LED specific flasher relay that will return the flash rate to normal.

I've read about this flasher for LED. I think it fits. I have not done the LED conversion yet cause I can't find LEDs that are significantly brighter than incandescent.

Next experiment. I had the header pipe ceramic coated. Always wanted to try this on a bike. I did this on a car once. The pipe temp after a long ride was 222 degrees F. We will see how much difference it makes.
