Mike - I took a picture from my 2003 manual showing the starter circuit and explaining how it operates.

XT225 Starter circuit for 2003 model year.

BIG Photo Here

I went into FF and you can zoom in with CTRL + keys or out with CTRL - keys. I was able to read all the details. Hope this helps. Good luck.

That is awesome, I can view it perfectly on my phone.
Looks like I can remove the relay completely and join the wires. I don't have a clutch switch and the relay looks in a bad state so that'll save a few pennies. One less thing to go wrong in the future too.........unless anybody thinks it's a bad idea???

Michael.

Just be careful with disabling safety systems. Such things have been included on bikes for good reasons. The diagram will get you through the wiring details on what you want to do. Be safe out there!

I'm sure you'll be fine. It never hurts to remind and/or revisit basic safely concerns. Good luck moving forward on this.

That's definitely true, there are plenty of fools out there.
One more thing regarding the wiring......I took loads of photos before removing the loom however I can't find the one showing where the battery negative attaches to the frame.....any knowledge?
Michael.

I took a look at the wiring harness diagram and it's hard to see certain details. It appears the (-) terminal runs forward and down towards the starter motor. I'd guess it grounds to the engine somewhere. The starter motor's return would be the largest current draw. Perhaps someone here can take a quick look at their bike and see. Ours are tough to get to right now.

What I know for sure is there's a positive from battery to starter solenoid. A negative from starter solenoid to the starter motor. Then there's the negative from the battery that heads towards the top mount of the rear shock.....just can't make out where it attaches to the frame......I'd like to only do it once as it means removing powder coat to get a good connection.
Please help....Haha.

Hey mate hope you've managed to sort this, if not I might be able to help. The earth goes over the frame down to where the clutch cable attaches to the gearbox. It's just screwed on there with a ring terminal. I just took mine to bits and I have a fair few pictures that might help you. I'll pm you my number and email.
