With my on-going battle with distracted drivers, I added these to my XT250

Whatever you add to your bike Spooky, in the end the "on-going battle with distracted drivers" is a war impossible to 'win' in any convincing manner while riding an XT in heavy traffic.

That's one of the reasons I pulled up stakes in the Valley of The Sun and moved 2 1/2 hours north-east to Arizona's remote White Mountain country. Too many 'close calls' with "distracted drivers" on Valley streets to go on playing Russian roulette with my health and wellbeing..

I hear ya. I live in somewhat better (less congested) area. I try to avoid traffic as much as I can. Don't have to commute any more. I ride for enjoyment now. When I did ride to work, several years ago, I was able to take a back road to work. I considered myself real lucky to have had that choice.
(Lost some earning power with that situation, but I hope to live a little longer because of it.)

In my heavily congested area of Valley I often avoided vehicle traffic by riding canal bank roads. The canal system is massive in the desert, set up more than a century ago to irrigate hundreds of thousands of acres of farm land. The service roads along the canal banks are kept in pretty good shape. Most vehicles don't use them, only Salt River Project service trucks, occasional horse back riders and a bike rider or two like me.

They're by far the safest way to get from A to B if you're up for a slower ride and navigating occasional obstacles along the way. Unfortunately they didn't go everywhere. Many times I had to use surface streets and contend with heavy traffic -- which got really 'old' in a big hurry.

I wanted to grow old myself, healthy, without a busted up body, able to do things I want to do. So when the opportunity to get away from the Valley rat race and live here in the mountains came along, I never looked back! Best move I ever made, by a long shot!..

Wow, those lights are huge! If someone doesn't see you, it sure won't be your fault.

Brake lights keep getting bigger, brighter, higher and blink more. Driver skill, technique and education keeps getting smaller, dumber, lower and blinks less.

I see the idiots here tailgate motorcycles in deer infested areas. I don't blame the riders one bit for trying to get their bikes more visible. Invincible stupidity is a hard thing to mitigate, however. Be as safe as possible out there!

I see bikes tailgating cars more often than the reverse. I see riders pull up within a foot of the car in front at traffic lights all the time. No visibility, no escape route. If something goes sideways, they're gonna get squished.

Yes I see the wild and free crowd (no helmets) on their Harleys bearing down on cars. Really stupid when you think about it. But the operative word is THINK. Seems lost these days.

You're just so vulnerable to injuries on a bike. All the more reason to drive with the notion every accident is my fault and I could easily get killed. Helps you pay attention to everything.

Jeannie and I were first responders to a motorcycle accident a couple of years ago. Not really pretty and I hope I never deal with that again. A fellow on a theme bike grabbed too much front brake when a bear suddenly darted out in front of his bike. He laid it down going about 50 MPH. Horrible sight still in my memory. He had proper clothing and a helmet so he survived.

Hi Spooky:

Nice workmanship. I'm curious about the legality. In my region regulations for extra lighting to the rear are very strict and flashing red lights can be a problem. Have you checked the legality of your system?
