Practising my image uploading! Replaced front and rear tubes on my 250 today. First time I've done it on a motorcycle! All went well, but I couldn't find anything decent to stand the bike with. Found this and it worked... Probably not tested to correct braking strain...

Also got to test my little ebay compressor. Worked really well, got the tires up to 50psi to seat, no bother at all. Think it was $35 aud delivered. Comes in a little pouch with a decent cable length. Weighs bugger all.

Picture links need a clean URL and/or something that ends in .jpg Don't see any of that in the post UBB or HTML code.

Strange, I can see them on mine?

I uploaded them on google plus, then copied the url which ends in jpg. Then clicked the add image box. If I just add the url does this work?

I can't see them on my computer or phone. Folks have tried google plus before without success. I don't know much about it, but perhaps an account is required for the links to work.

Always great to see Japan spec wheels, rather than the usual US types.

Thanks spooky, I'm recovering from a hangover at the moment, maybe after I'll sort out an imgur account! The only problem I've found Reggie is getting a tubeless rear tyre! It seems only trailwings do a tubeless 120 80.

You can use a tube tire (with a tube). Just be sure to tape up the inside so nothing will rub a hole in the tube.

Hi Matey,

I usually go with the Trailwing TW301 and TW302 combo, which work for my road biased riding but, at Peejman says you don't need to limit yourself to tubeless.

One ting I would mention though is that the fit it really, really tight, so I don't even bother trying to self fit, so always use a local supplier to supply and fit! I've done other bike tryes, and the front ones on the Serow are easy but the rear's something else! You have been warned, if you want to keep the skin, on your knuckles!

Regards

I've gone for a couple of Avon Distanzia (AM43 & AM44) for my XT250. I wanted ones that are rated for both tube and tubeless use. So my front has a tube, and my rear is tubeless. I mostly ride on tarmac, so the tread pattern suits me.

Btw, I fitted the front tyre myself, but I second what Reggie says about the rear tyre on the XT250 - I don't have much in the way of muscle, so I got my strongest bike buddy to have a go - not a chance!! :-D Much easier to pop the wheel off and take it round a shop with the equipment to fit it. :-D

Newb - did you manage to fit the rear yourself? If so, respect!

Hi LilAnge,

wise lady!

Let us know how you get on with the tyres, and what mileage they last for.

Will do Reggie. They've only done 4500 km so far, but there's per-lenty of tread in them!

Oh, and am I wise for my tyre choice, or for agreeing with you? :-D

Hey sorry for the late reply. Managed to squeeze in a week away on the bike before work started!

Yeah I managed to get the tyres on myself. But though it's the first time I've done bike tyres I've done hundreds of car tyres at work so I had that as some experience. Also I used tube type tyres. Although the rear was a 130, so a touch bigger.

I did them by hand, lots of lube and make sure the tyre stays in the groove of the rim. If at 70% the way round its not happening, just pop the bead off, spray with soapy water and try again.

I'll post in the tyre thread in a few weeks about the tyres. They're MT 63 Michelin. Knobbly tyre, I've put 5000km of 50/50 on them and they're looking ok.

Nothing about changing a bike tire is easy in my book. If it was me doing it I'd farm the job out to someone like yourself and gladly pay the going rate for that service..
